    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

Attersee, in the Austrian Lake district

This is a place that is easy to get to, in fact you can just drive up, park the car at the restaurant and take few steps over to the view.
Of course it’s also possible to walk for an hour up the mountain to get here, which has the advantage that the cool beer then tastes even better 😊

    Rosie's Farm

If all goes according to plan (there are a few impediments) I'll be visiting the 300 year old farm of relatives in Pennsylvania in a couple of weeks. Last time I was there it was apple season. The apple picker (cousin Oliver) had gone in for breakfast but had put the best looking apple of the morning aside for himself for later.

    Final Assent

Mount Bierstadt sits at 14,065 feet to make it one of the Colorado 14er's. It is the first 14er I bagged. It's easy climbing to about 13,500 feet, then it gets a bit more of a challenge - not to mention not a lot of air. This shot of the peak was taken at about 13,000 feet.

The warm and bright colours are great in this little "initimate landscape" study.
So many details. You've found a good spot to make it an interesting shot.
I like the way that the foreground grasses standout; by being highlighted in front of the dark watery background.

I hope it works out for you, looks like a nice place to visit.
Great shot , could be a book cover. Reminds me of the book by John Irving called "The Cider House Rules" ;-)

I love orchards. There's something compelling, romantic even, about them. I missed orchards when we lived in Scotland (coming from Gloucestershire with its perry pears and cider apples), but now in Cumbria there are lots of orchards, including the local speciality; damsons 😀
This one is quintessential orchard, with its ladder, and then that one perfect apple 😃 If I had any criticism it would be that the ladder feels just a bit too central to the composition, but then I don't know what else may be limiting your options.
Have a great trip back there.

Magnificent. I'd like to kid myself I could do that. Maybe thirty years ago 😁 1000m in a day is my limit now.
From this view it doesn't look so big, but the glimpse of other mountains on the left, with their associated cloud, makes you mentally recalculate. Fine shot.

A nice calming pano, without too much going on. The reflected clouds nicely balance the trees.

Wow, 14065 ft is a long way up! There's nothing that high here in the Austrian Alps.
    Congrats on getting up there!
The little bits of snow give some nice bright white highlights, and the texture looks good. The grain speaks of a B&W film process.
The composition has a nice diagonal line leading up to the peak which you've placed, in the shot, in an effective "thirds power point".
That large open area in the foreground shows although we are already very high, there's still a long way to go

A nice pleasant lake on a pleasant sunny day. Makes me want to take a walk around it right now. Pity it's raining here at the moment ;-)
I like the reflections and the small ripples on the water's surface. And, by the way, your stitching technique has worked perfectly.

    What is a "RE listing"?

Thank you. I am glad you like it. "RE listing" is real estate property for sale listing.

I like it, just not personally a fan of the tone-mapping and what it does to the background.

In the US there are 96 14,000 peaks. Alaska has 29 which leaves 73 in the "lower 48." Of those 53 are in the state of Colorado. On most of them there is some snow year round on the North faces. This picture was taken in mid July. Treeline in Colorado is about 10,500 to 11,000 depending on how far North or South in the state. The Colorado Rockies were a major impediment to the forward expansion of the US and a reason the major trail leading to the West, the Oregon Trail, ran North of Colorado through WY. In Colorado the Congenital Divide consistently above 11,500 feet. There is a dip between the Wind River Range WY and the Medicine Bow Range in Northern Colorado where the divide is only 8000 feet. In that dip is where the major Western migration trails run, the Mormon Trail, the Oregon Trail and California Trail. They all crossed the divide at South Pass a gentile climb up and down of 7500 feet.

I was in my 30's when I bagged my first 14er. I climbed a few of the easier one that could be climbed in a day. Some required ropes and technical climbing. Some required multiday climbs. I wasn't that obsessive. The interesting thing is the US FAA has a regulation that the pilot and any crew member flying in a plane without a pressurized cockpit is required to be on oxygen to be used after 30 minutes above 12,500 feet (3,812 m) and immediately after above 14,000 feet (4,367 m). People tend to get light headed and even pass out above that altitude. Many people trying to climb 14ers have to stop at 13,000 as they cannot accommodate to the think air. The last 1000 feet no matter how gentle is slow going - on foot plopped down in front of the other.

However, the air is dry and crisp and the view are awesome up in the high country.
