    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    Patterns in Nature

Sometimes all you have to do is keep your eyes open,... and be at the right place at the right time.

Nice to see some green in Australia😃
The long thing panarama format works well here for such a long straight road. It takes you straight to the vanishing point in the far distance.
I can imagine it could be used for, among other things, a thin page header in a photo book.
The clouds look pretty impressive too.

    Sunup

Camped at 10,000 feet in the flattops, I had awakened early to catch breakfast. Lay the fly out on the glassy still lake, a ripple a few feet to the right. Lay it out again - and boom. With in five cast I had breakfast as the sun peaks above the far lake bank. I turn around and caught a solitary small grove of aspens being spotlighted. Didn't have long to get my camera out.

A wonderful start to a great day.

    Hi GreatBustard
I've moved my reply to your Landscape photo to this week's thread. Maybe more respnse from others if they reply here as well :-)

    This is good!
Despite the new improved hi-res thumbnails now used by DPrevived, this shot certainly benefits by expanding it to full resolution.
I guess you're looking down from a bridge so it has a slightly unusal and interesting composition, the framing of the branches, top & Bottom, works well to highlight those 2 rocks and adds some depth to the image.
When looking at it in full res you can see the nice detail in the flowing water. The chosen shutter speed is slow enough the give the silky effect without blurring out the flow completely. My favourite choice too.
The two rocks are nicely placed and are really quite black compared to the almost white water. It's the sort of image tthat works well in B&W, but I prefer your colour version here :-)

Without your nice story, I would not have guessed that this has anything to do with fishing ;-)
Aspens with their high contrast B&W trunks are very photogenic.. You caught them well here.

It was one of mine also. I discovered it when we moved to CO in the early 1980's. The place was undiscovered at the time - probably because it was not all that easy to get to. It's a bear of an assent to the top, but once up there the rolling terrain around tree line makes one feel like you are at the top of the world. The only other person we saw in our several trips was a young man with his dog manning a herd of sheep. The place is spotted with lakes full of trout.

Interesting shot. Breaking the rule about the horizon shall not be in the center of the frame might be a good thing here to complete the symmetry especially given the interesting sky. BTW I've been in Alice Springs more often than I want to recall. I never remember seeing any green. All I remember is the "red dirt."

Yellowstone NP - one of my favorite areas in Yellowstone is the Blacktail Plateau, which has only a gravel road, no major attractions, and rarely any other humans.

Wow, lovely rainbow in a very scenic place. Even a double rainbow over on the right hand side. The colours are clean and bright. Must have been great to have been there in person

I usually in the evening I step out on the balcony.
I can enjoy a few minutes looking around ...
.. Birds flying, Mountains standing, Cars noising...
May be a nice sunset 🤷

    ... but now and then...
Astounding clouds over the Susa Valley bottom end 😇

Two days ago I left the cameras in the car. The sun was already behind the mountains.
Not even a breath of air. It was burning hot on the balcony.
After staying in full sun all day, may be air in the 42°C range, and the floor was burning my feet.
But I didn't want to miss a fast shot. Run back to pick what I have left on the kitchen table 😂

A glorious location. As you say, it's the centering of so many lines on a point that make this image special.

A shot for long time photographers. Aspen trunks are rightly favourite subjects for photographers. The groupings and pure white lines make them irresistible. Too often. You have turned the expected on its head. The brave little pine is challenging the tones and textures of its cliched neighbours.

I agree with Fireplace. It's the choice of what I'd regard as a perfect shutter speed that makes this deceptively simple image come to life for the reasons he has given. I like the broadening of the main vertical line toward the bottom. It gives balance to the moment.
    Well done..

I like watching the clouds too. I find myself looking, and sometimes finding, "things" in the sky here ; crocodiles, squirrels, arrows, cars, trolls,... they have all been up there in the past for fleeting moments :-)
I like the 2nd of your shots best. The clouds are towering up and catching the light and make a great contrast to all those layers of mountains below.
You have a splendid view from your balcony!

    Nice set!
This last one is my favourite.
Beautiful big sky with a colour gradient going from orange to dark blue with different types of clouds on the way.
And that thin dark landscape at the bottom has layers all the way into the distance
