    The Weekly Landscape Thread

...starting the weekly thread a few hours earlier since I'm off taking some photos tomorrow :-)

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

Build your castle inside the mountain

Perhaps not the most classic example of landscape photography, but thought it just about fits here:-)
The tourists here are snaking their way up the path to see this castle in Slovenia.
You can visit inside and see what life was like inside a well protected, but fairly cold and damp castle.
Seems all medieval castles needed a torture chamber, this castle was no exception, and it was built quite close to the big festive dining hall !

Just recently had the opportunity to photograph some icebergs in Greenland. First time attempt. See what you think.

Fabulous landscape! The little figure makes the scale more intelligable, but maybe loses a touch of the magic?

These two are my picks, the first for the fabulous colours, and the second for the beautiful mysterious background. The others are nice too: you could maybe try some more abstract crops for a bit of variety?

Thanks for that. Yes I have plenty of partial shots and crops I am playing with. Just started with complete iceberg shots. Colour wise, I have resisted adding more blue (for example) artificially, preferring the true colours I saw on the day, and I think the subtle colours are fabulous too :)

A special landscape. The snowy mountains in the background add an extra dimension to the image.👍

I love the SW canyons. They tell an interesting story of time and nature and the power of wind and water. Bruce Barnbaum's book, Plateaus and Canyons tells the story of the Southwester US. I've spent a lot of time in the Southwest canyons and covered many a miles on horseback. Some of my favorite landscape. I never tire of it. So I am not unbiased. However, I think you captured the vastness and raw beauty of this unique landscape. The human for scale is a good touch.

Is that the ride into Waterton? Beautiful!

Nice, truly a spectacle. I heard fire season was in full swing up there, hope the smoke didn't ruin the experience!

We had some rain yesterday, resulting in a double rainbow. A herd of Elk were out and about enjoying the rain.

Amazing colours here, especially the extra thin inner bow.

A great landscape photo with depth, and interesting subjects all the way from the foreground trees to the snow covered mountains.
The rock formations are really quite special. Good composition. The small person gives a nice idea of the scale here.

    These are really special!
Love the way the light is catching the ice and shining out, and reflecting in the water too.
The colours are delicate and look impressive, I agree that there is no need to saturate them more.
There's quite a 3D effect visible here, nicely done!
I'd love to see these for myself, must hurry up before they all melt away.

The view looks fantastic, amazing formations.
The "cross view" didn't work for me this time, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.

I'd like to be on that boat !
You can somehow see its movement going slowly toward the sunlit pier.
Great how the water is darker and contrasting to the brighter boat and the pier, and the mountain scenery around the lake is fantastic!

    Nice set!
That double rainbow looks good, I've never seen one like that before, with sunset colours inside the bow.
