    The Weekly Landscape Thread

...starting this week's weekly thread earlier again, since I'll be very busy tomorrow with other things :-)

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

A walk along the "Panorama path" looking down at Dienten below

The village of Dienten is in the Hochkönig region of Austria and about a 15min drive from our holiday home in Mühlbach.
The panorama path ("Dorfpanoramaweg") is less than 4km long, with not much hill walking involved, so it's all really easy.
This was an overcast day, after a few days of rain, so everything was looking lovely and green.

My wife took a longer way back, so I sat waiting with a beer in a beer garden in Dienten :-)
There, by chance, I met an English family, travelling through Europe, and it turned out that the guy was about the same age as me, and went to the same two schools that I went to in England. Coincidences do happen !

I got lucky with this photo of Stift Melk from a coach on the West Autobahn here in Austria. There were only a few seconds during which the abbey was visible from the road.

Last summer we headed down the trail early one morning and gave by about 50 yards out gave about a pint of blood to some unfriendly neighborhood mosquitos. We turned back as we had no repellent with us. Never got back out. The still calm water in this secondary channel of the Snake give great reflections as the one you captured. They also give the mosquitos a great place to breed.

Nice balanced composition captured in nice light providing a great reflected image.

Yes, "calm and tranquil" do come to mind when looking at this.

I used to have a Practica MTL-3 years and years ago. It was my first real camera, loved it :-)
Good to see you "saved" this shot.
It#s a nicely exposed scene with the mountain in the background and those logs giving an interesting forground.
I think I would have cropped the bottom a bit to remove the puddles and make it a bit more of a panorama format for a print?

Niicely composed shot with the cliffs and curves along the coastline. The clouds were pretty for you on that day too.
I guess the bird is flying off for a day trip to France :-)

    This is a beauty !
Great composition and colours, with the grassy bank making a nice foregound frame.
I love such little ponds that can reflect a whole mountain range. I found one similar to this in our Hochkönig region in Austria a few years back. I'll post it here further down in the thread :-)

Lovely scenery. Great tonality as usual. The little waves and those little clouds give it a nice "kick of contrast".
I think this would look good in a big print where you'd get a chance to look close and see the shadow details of the forest.

Definitely a lucky shot with only a few seconds to take it.
It's set nicely here with the forest and those impressive clouds as a backdrop.
Stift Melk is a fine looking building, I've driven past many times, I must find time to visit it one day, maybe combining that with a trip to the Wachau :-)

A whole mountain range in a small pond

Inspired by @minniev 's reflection shot this week, here is the Hochköniig mountain range from Austria in a small "hidden" pond.
The pond is off the main track a bit, and it's difficult to find because it's not always there! And even when it is there, the wind can be blowing and the reflections all disappear, but sometimes it works it's magic :-)

    Another mountain reflection

    Such a wonderful subject! Here's one from me;
It was a chilly autumn morning in the french alps - still ice on the water.

This is great too! Fits perfectly into the series :-)
In the hi-res version, the lake ice stands out quite clearly. The closest hill bursts with color, while the two towering mountains loom majestically over it.
And the whole scene is captured in the little pond. Again it's nicely framed by the nearest bank.

Just beautiful. Such clear air as well as the water. I like the way it's composed with the light on the mountains looking as if they are 'facing' accross the field of view; I think this is better than a simple cop of the mountains without the space for them to 'look' into.
