    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

Step by step to the top of Ulsan Rock in South Korea

It's about 900m above sea level and a fairly steep climb but there are steps all the way up.
We chose quite a windy day :-)

Fascinating and I am sure you were happy to have a 'light' camera in hand

An impressive view! I like the way the river works here as a leading line, between the walls of ice, and points toward the mossy green mountain in the distance. The sky is good with the rays of light seeming to come out from behind that mountain
The many ice layers are clearly visible, and they are all covered with the black ash giving a good contrasty effect, and, as with so many things in Iceland, an otherworldly feeling to it.

When you get up close, it’s amazing how dirty the rivers are, that run away from the glaciers in Iceland.
All that lava and ash is mixed in

Thanks, this trip to South Korea was a few years back, the Olympus EM1ii served me well then. Yes, it's light and compact :-)
In the meantime I'm now using a Nikon Z7, it's a bit bigger and heavier, especially when telephoto lenses are used, but still well manageble

Without My Time in This Land

The 26th US President Theodore Roosevelt, said of the North Dakota badlands that "without my time in this land I would not have been president."
Roosevelt took his love of the wild land and became the conservation president. Roosevelt vastly expanded the public lands in the US. He created the
US Forest Service to manage forested land. He created 5 new national parks. To protect the Grand Canyon for future generations he designated it as a national monument and it went on to become a national park.

Roosevelt's Elk Horn Ranch is down stream on the Little Missouri river in this image.

Very nice Photo. Lovely warm light on the trees with an impressive blue sky overhead. Those clouds seem to take my eye on a journey into the distant background

    Abisko

Trying some processing of summer photos. Here is shot from Abisko national park in Sweden. It was hard to get good shot as the river is fenced to avoid falling down and there is lot of small trees and bushes getting into view so I had to settle what was available. Unfortunately as usually with organized tours we had little time to explore this area so I could not get onto lake faintly visible in background in front of mountains. But this area is now on my bucket list to visit sometime again.

For my taste, this image is a bit too busy, maybe zooming in to show less of the wide vista and a bit more of the features it contains would help?
But, of course, tastes vary :-)

Getting any decent shots at all on some guided tours can be dificult :-)
It all depends on what type of tour it is, how many people are in the group, and of course what the guide and the other people are like.
I think you did well here, and now you'll be better prepared when you return sometime later :-)
That water looks like it's running really fast and has a lot of power. Good that the fences are there, even if they get in the wa a bit ;-)

I think I'm with Fireplace on this one. A colour version might be preferable in these circumstances, though I appreciate that' not an option with your usual gear.

Nicely framed scene. The water looks so clear.
Abisco is somewhere I'd love to go, but an organised tour would be so frustrating.

Love this. A narrower crop might also work, though you'd lose the boat on the left.

The golden sunset colours here are definitely true to its name and the red coloured flag against that orange background is a nice touch.
I think you've captured the bridge very well, the lines going to the the support tower look good and there's even a train passing, whch I'm sure is not just by chance ;-)
I like the boat in the corner giving the image some more depth :-)
