    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    Nockalmstrasse

Last year we spent some time hiking in Carinthia, Austria.
One highlight was the road called the “Nockalmstrasse” that winds its way through the “Nockberge”; a region of gently rounded dome-shaped peaks, all covered with grass.
Here’s two shots from the same place with the same lens. This Z24-120 has now become my “one lens solution” for many hikes. But I’ll often squeeze a ultra-wide angle into the bag too😉
I may have posted these before, but they were slightly differently processed today.

Nice. The light is soft and the sun on the further hills gives some depth. Love the wisps of snow left over ...Always enjoy your mountain shots

Time to start posting fall color landscapes. I am hoping the impending government shutdown doesn't shut down my planned fall trip in a couple of weeks. For now, old photos will have to do, as nothing has changed much around here yet, and it never gets very dramatic. Here's a shot from Algonquin PP in Ontario, as rustic and wild a park as I've ever visited.

    Horseshoe Bend

While in Coffee Shop in Vernal, Ut this summer drinking a Latte strong enough to dissolve a spoon, a man saw our cameras and said you really need to go to Horseshoe Bend - it is unique. He gave us vague directions and we looked it up when we got back to the truck. He meant Horseshoe Bend on the Green River. We take off. We run out of cell service so maps on the phone didn't work. It didn't matter the roads we were on weren't in any of the GPS or map databases. I'm happy we had a full tank of fuel and I had a compass and remembered how to use it. 😉.

We were ready to turn back and then we top a hill.

We follow the river for a ways. A unique country. Our options was to press on or go back the way we came, hoping I could retrace it with a compass. We decided to turn around.

What a great story. And a stunning landscape. I'm envious of your wilderness country. There's nothing like that left in Europe.

This one brought back memories! I must have camped not far from this exact spot in 1979 when I began fieldwork for my postgrad geology research.

Happy to help. I know it hasn't changed much in 50 years as I have pictures (not taken by me) dating back to 1959

That first shot is very good!
Love the burst of light coming out from behind the dark cloud, sending its rays through the sky and brightening the meadow in the foreground.
The mountain in the middle is fairly dark and serves to make that light in the clouds even more impressive.
Photography is all about light, and this photo is a good example !

Beautiful colours indeed. Really good shot. Well framed view of that picturesque river valley.
Here in Austria it is still too warm for the autumn colours, but it hopefullly won't be too long before we get the first frosty night and the colours are back again

    Natural beauty!
An impressive photo that shines out beautifully in black and white, and goes well with your story too.
It captures a vast, open space completely empty of people, far removed from any bustling crowds. It’s reassuring to know the fuel tank was full!
The nice contrast between the bright sandbank patterns and the darker trees creates a striking visual along the curve of the bend.

This photo has lots of things that would make me feel good while hiking; autumn colours in the trees, snow and ice covered mountains, with a dramatic sky overhead and mist rising up in between them.
It has lots of detail and good lighting to make it all shine and your processing is spot on!

Some pictures of and around the local duck pond. Fall colors are just getting started, and aren't quite in full swing yet. I hope to get more from the local spots with larches this coming week.

Wonderful. Inversion mist plus a 'belt of Venus' 😀
We have had views like that this week too looking across to the Lake District fells, but I haven't got myself together to take any pictures.

Another good set. Number 2 is quite a similar subject to Woodsider's shot :-)
The last one with a sprinking of yellow leaves and the white water is good, you can feel that you're on the edge fairly high up and looking down through the trees.
