    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    The Riedingtal in Autumn

I haven’t been on many trips in the last few months but this weekend I had the chance to go on two hikes😊
I already posted some landscape shots from one of those trips to the Red-Rocks-River in this week’s “Wednesday C&C” weekly thread (here's the Link)

And here’s some from our enjoyable second trip last weekend.
The Riedingtal valley in the Hochkönig region of Austria was displaying its classic “Autumn-look”.
It was a warm sunny day and even the mountain hut was open for a beer and a chat. Great hike!
We are going back again today for another few days, but the wind has been blowing really hard in the last few days, so most of those beautiful leaves will be on the floor now. We’ll see!

    Very nice scene :-)
    That lake is huge!!
The warm autumn colours and green grassy bank are a great compliment to the bright blue water
And you got an interesting sky too.

Wonderful scenery and the essence of autumn. The first has a lovely play of light - I like these kind of images with grazing light of slopes and trees. I find if I dial down the exposure it really makes the light pop.
The second, with the trees - cliffs - moody cloud is a great contrast of mood. Makes me long to get back to the mountains.

    Thanks Woodsider.
In the first one here I had already processed the original image in the direction you suggested. I suppose I could take it a bit further :-)
The mountains certainly have a way of enticing you back again and again. I'm just standing at the beginning of the today's trip and, looking up, they now have a fresh sprinkling of snow from the storms last week. Looks fantastic.

    Upper Swaledale

Yes, where the sheep come from 😁
Coincidentally, I manged to get out into the Yorkshire Dales this week, enjoying the subtle autumnal colours and low glancing light. See also the conversation above.

This is really good. Nicely framed on the right with the dark hill and that silhouetted tree at the top.
As you mentioned the grazing light is working well here to show off the gentle contours of the sloping pasture and the river is visibly glowing, making clear S shaped curves and leading lines to the background.

    Beautiful shot. Impressive rocks.
The white crests on the gentle waves are making some good lines here that you've used to best advantage. Your text and the clouds tell us that when the gale soon comes, that will all look very different!
The single person on the beach gives a sense of scale and adds a point of interest.
