    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

Only one short walk in the forest this week

And I didn’t even take my camera, at least I always have my phone with me.
Here are 3 shots of those lovely autumn colours before they all disappear.

Beautiful detail in the shot, nice lighting. Would that be Tower Rock?
Must be great to drive through this scenic gorge. I looked it up and thanks to YouTube I just took a virtual ride along that 20 mile road :-)
So again, after looking at your photograph, I've found something new to explore one day. Thanks for posting.

Yep that's Tower Rock. We were staying at Red Canyon Lodge for a few days at Flaming Gorge. Headed to the lodge we did a trip though Sheep Creek canyon in the afternoon. At that point we decided to do it in the morning the other direction. Two mornings later we did and the morning light cooperated as it shimmered off the Southwest canyon wall as it came over the Northeast wall.

Flaming Gorge is a canyon carved by the Green river which flows from its headwaters in Green River Lake on the West side of the Wind River range in Wyoming and ending up in the Colorado. The Flaming Gorge damn. The is 502 feet tall forming one of the main reservoirs in the Colorado river basin. Right outside our cabin in Red Canyon lodge, I waked out onto the porch on morning with a cup of coffer and there was a big horn ram grazing. He looked up at me and then went back to munching grass. By the time I got back inside and got my camera, he had disappeared.

Is this at Giza? looks similar but not quite how I remember it.
We did a camel ride around the pyramids many, many years ago.

The locals are waiting eagerly for the next tourists. You can see the sand and huge expanse of desert and that hazy, dusty, sandy atmosphere, for a true desert experience ;-)

You've menntioned before that you like vertical landscape shots, but I think cropping off some of the sky would still work for me, it would make the image "larger" and thus show more detail when viewed on a PC monitor.
I can see lots of spots in the image, so either dust on the sensor, or perhaps (hopefully) it was taken through a dirty window ;-)

Looks like Mount Fuji in the middle, at the back, with its characteristic volcano shape.
Putting it more or less in the middle of the image seems to draw attention to it, showing the horizon doesn't always need to be on a thirds line ;-)
The chosen wide view includes the grasses on the meadow and a tree which both add depth to the image. A first sprinkling of snow adds some nice contrast to the landscape and tell us that it was fresh but still a pleasant day for hiking :-)
I like the border you added.

    These are all beautiful!

    The first shot,
...is an amazing sunset over the Alps.
The moody sky really seems to be burning and lighting up those far hills. The contrast with the bright white in the most distant mountains is very nice.
Red light is also making the forest in the foreground, and especially that lone tree, glow warmly and adds depth.
The natural blue you get from the haze in the distance is combining with the sunset red to give a nice violet colour. Great pp!

    The second.
    ...has some great features,..
Love the way the clouds are blowing through the gap between the two peaks. I guess these are like Föhn clouds that bring warm dry winds to the lee side of the mountain.
The grazing light is picking up all the contours of the land on the slope and highlighting that little village.
And the bright orange autumn forest in the foreground brightens the image and adds some colour and contrast, not to mention more depth.

    The third,
... a nice autumn shot with lots of detail !

Looking forward to your next posts
