    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    A really foggy day

But beautiful if you can get above that fog 😊
This pano shot was taken at the beginning of 2025.
A bit later today, I’m driving back to this area. There’s been a lot of fresh snow recently and the sun will be shining at the weekend so the chances of getting some good mountain shots are looking good.

I was a bit disappointed with the sky in this pano shot, it seemed to have several vertical bands between the individual original photos. They were barely visible when looking at the 100% view, but when pulling back, or making a lower res version, they became quite obvious. So, a sky replacement with the original sky from the same place on the same day from another shot came to the rescue here.

Very nice pano. Spectacular scenery there. It's always difficult to capture the majesty of the high peaks but this does the trick nicely. Enjoy your trip...I have to wait a few weeks but even below 1200m there appears to be 50cm of snow in the Savoie (french)

I've met this problem with panos and I assume it's related to 'vignetting' in the lens. I've experimented with trying to correct the individual shots before stitching but never really solved it.
    Have a great weekend!

Playing above the clouds can always result in interesting photos. As for as the panos, a friend has mastered the art form. When I was asking him for some guidelines his first comment was overlap. His recommendation was about 50% works best to mitigate any risk of banding patterns.

This is Waitpinga Beach. It was taken from the same headland as the photo I posted in last weeks thread but not from the same spot and it is looking in the opposite direction. East. This is also a surfing beach but is also very popular for fishing.

Very nice. And good work with the sky! However you did it (and I certainly could not do it)... unnoticeable from an editing standpoint (but very complimentary image-wise). That looks REALLY GREAT at full size. Very natural gray/blue color tones of the mountains in the distance and also the more earthy tones of the ridges in the foreground. Perfectly sharp -- not too sharp. Excellent. I have not taken any landscape photos this week (since I posted the Shasta Dam picture) so I may have to reach back into the recent archives to participate this week. :-)

That's great in B&W. It feels like where it is. And it is a LONG ways from Florida to Cape Disappointment! :-) I would LOVE to shoot with a GFX100RF. That would be a lot of fun. I would probably have even more fun in post... examining all of the detail. LOL. :-)

I liked the misty shot you posted previously, but this is probably my favorite of the two. Beautiful I looked at the map and can see that it is 50 miles (80 KM) from Adelaide (as the bird flies) but more like ~90 miles (145 KM) on the road. Definitely worth a trip! :-)

    The footpath

    PB273915.jpg

Our previous home had a footpath passing through that led up a steep wooded bank and emerged onto an ancient field edge with an overgrown hazel hedge. A foggy November afternoon really clarified the messy scene and made for a nice leading shot.
