    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    One year ago today

Here’s another photo from the same place that I posted last week. But this time it is a full colour photo 😉
Taken at the beginning of the trail up to that rocky outcrop where we found the “Gams” two weeks ago.
This shot was taken almost one year ago today and you can see our snow shoe trail in the winter wonderland.

A single ski track into untracked powder provides an amazing leading line through the image. Really nice tonality.

You've made a noisy motorway look really good in this shot. With all the lights from the fast moving cars, it's positively glowing compared to that darker landscape it runs through. And of course that snakey "S" shape works well to guide us into the background and give a great feeling of depth

I think I've seen this beach from you before. Another good shot here!
A good play of light on that dark receeding water contrasted nicely with the bright white waves.

I walked about a mile on the beach. The previous one I posted was about 1/4 mile down.

All lovely but this one particularly. The whisps of mist are very special - give an other-worldly feel.

Here is another one of my seascapes. This is Petrel Cove on the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.

I like the first two. The top one has a leading line with the leaves and (I assume) a water course. The second one has great reflections.

I just don't really get on with the third one. I may be missing something but it doesn't hold my interest.

Really pleasing series to view. Really like the minimalistic vibes in the first one.

    Thank you.
The first is the middle of a creek. December (until today) has been very dry, so there hasn't not been enough water to fill the creek, leaving these pools along the creek bed to fill until they trickle over into the next one.

I struggled a bit with the third also. I wasn't sure about exposure. The light in the left third of the image feels a bit too bright possibly from the right 1/3.

    These are good!
I especially like the first one where you can clearly see the fascinating slow movement of the leaves on the water's surface. I've tried that a few times in the past and never really got any good results. Looking at your very long exposure time of 50s I can see what I need to try next time :-)
I assume you lugged a tripod to the stream. Did you also use an ND filter or was it just dark enough there in the forest?

All are very good shots :-)
The mist over the sea looks interesting. I guess the water was quite a bit warmer than the air, at that time early in the morning.

From the two sunsets I prefer the the horizontal version, although maybe just a little more space under the island would give it a bit more "room to breathe"
The beautiful sunset colours and sunrays in the sky contrast nicely with that dark island.

My favourite is, however, the last one, with the beach and crashing waves, well composed with the dark rocks on the left, that balance the image.
The water has a blue colour that contrasts nicely with the gentle warmer sunset colours.

    Just a posting technique tip,...
if you put two extra empty lines between your photos, (just hit enter twice between adding the photos), they will appear, as above, as separate individual pictures with a white space between them..

    And another good one!
Beautiful blue colours in the sea and sky.
A wide open empty coastline, with lots of details to see in the image, like the colourful green bank and all the paths going up to the top and along the cliffs.
Also plenty of rocks down on the beach to explore.
I bet you also have some shots of the waves crashing over those rocks ;-)

CALM. Some great pictures here this week. And good stories/explanations, too. Very enjoyable. We have had wind, rain, and flooding for the past 2 weeks. Major flooding in some areas. I was raking leaves in the back yard and sweeping the patio during a brief break in the weather pattern. I noticed the tug approaching, so I grabbed the camera with my "landscape lens" (80-400) @ 195mm. LOL. Light-wise, yes, things are as dark and gray-ish and as flat as it looks. :-)
