    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    Snow shoe walk in Mühlbach

This week I had planned to find time for some photos in our very foggy forest, maybe using a flash or two and a couple of lanterns, but the first chance I had it actually started to rain and all the frost fell off the trees so with those really lousy conditions, I just went for a beer instead.
Yesterday I had another chance, but the fog disappeared,... just before I could get out of the house 😖
Maybe I’ll have more luck with that in the coming days 😊

So, again for this week’s thread, you’ll have to make do with something completely different, from my archives.

This one is a playful shot from 2022 with shadows during a snow shoe walk in the Austrian mountains

And, about 40 mins later, looking in the other direction at those gentle pastel colours in the sky over the forest

    No White Christmas Here

I can't get snow scenes with untracked powder. Sand might be the next best thing. 😎

In B&W, sand does have a remarkable resemblance to snow 😊

There's not really so many places in the world where you get a White Christmas, and with global warming, it's getting more rare in those places where it used to happen.
Here in Austria, after some early snow last month, we are currently in the middle of a foggy thaw period, but according to the (notoriously inaccurate) 9 day forecast, I might see a few snow flakes on our Christmas day here in upper Austria 😊
Christmas is celebrated on the 24th in Austria and has different customs and different Christmas carols, compared to where I grew up in England.

My brother has been living in Australia for a few decades, and every year at Xmas time, I get to see photos from him and Santa in short trousers, red hat and white beard, going for a swim at the beach. That all seems very strange from my perspective, but Christmas is all about repeated family traditions, doing the same thing each year, so whatever you get used to IS “Christmas” for you, and it’s something to look forward to each year, whatever it happens to look like.

Speaking of traditions, we broke ours this year and chose to be some place warm with plenty of sunshine and white sandy beaches instead of the usual white powder.

The two images below are of the same scene; one close up, and the other further up the beach.

Nice series. Really like the subtle yellow/blue tones in the second two. They complement each other nicely.

This shot shows that sunny, holiday feeling nicely; clear turquoise water & gentle waves with fluffy clouds.m :-)
Looks like you could walk along a bit and find a nice restaurant. Where is it ?

    Impressive trees. Well processed.
The reds and greens look bold and vibrant.
This one is my favourite. Works well as it is. A crop from the bottom to put the fallen trunk just above the corner would be another alternative. Makes the shot a bit wider and seems, for some reason, to add a bit more depth

Picture #2 is EXCELLENT... exposure/framing and the warm relaxing feel. I wish I had something to contribute, but for the past ~2 weeks it has been much too cold, windy, rainy and dark here. So that's a bummer. But the the nice shots on the weekly thread are bright and uplifting. :-)

That's great. Bring your own battery or generator!

I also like #3. I've found that "forest shots" are not easy to pull off (for a variety of reasons) -- but you've done very well in this instance. I believe I said this a week or two ago... I need to get to the Redwoods someday! :-)

LOL. You and Tim Allen! Or at least that's what he was TRYING to do. :-) #1 is really nice. Have a good time!
