This week we celebrate a whole year of "Weekly Landscape Threads" 😃

    Hope you enjoyed that.

Let's showcase this with lots of entries this week. Shots made anytime in that past year would be great.

    ...

    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    The Sum Waterfall, Slovenia

There's many shots to choose from this year, but this is one of my favourite.
Taken in Slovenia in June 2025 on a guided hiking holiday. Re-edited today.

The Sum Waterfall is at the northern edge of the Vintgar Gorge.
For this holiday we joined a small hiking group from a good (German speaking) tour company called Weltweitwandern
Our guide took us to all the highlights and kept us away from the crowds :-)

Congratulations on WEEK #52! That's great. I've had fun over the past ~3 months (I started @ week #40) and I appreciate this weekly thread. It is inspiring and interesting to see everyone's contributions and it definitely provides motivation to get out with the camera -- which is the whole point! I missed last week as I was "on the road" making a 2-day speed run (drive) from Seattle to Denver (1400 miles; 2250 km) --and only had one chance to stop and take a couple of pictures (the morning after staying overnight in Twin Falls, Idaho). And then... the scenery from Twin Falls to Salt Lake City along I-84 is breathtaking. But there was no time to "pull over on the side of the road" and take a proper picture. I need to go back someday when I'm not up against a deadline. As you can imagine, it was a bit frustrating to barrel along at 85 MPH (135 km/h) with all of the amazing beauty and the vastness of the western landscape in front of me. But there was no time to stop. So... here are two current pictures from Twin Falls taken last weekend (Snake River and the Perrine Bridge) and then some extra extra shots (panos) from August 2025 taken during a quick "Sunday drive" through Eastern Washington (to Grand Coulee Dam).

SNAKE RIVER - This is a 2-frame composite (20mm FL) taken from the visitor center parking lot in Twin Falls, ID (at the south end of the Perrine Bridge). Looking west. This was intended to be a single shot... a "test shot" and then the "actual" shot. But after processing "one" it seemed to make sense to widen the view, so I glued them together. Some distortion at the periphery due to the 20mm FL. I tried to straighten things up, but when I got the edges to look OK, then the middle was weird. So it is what it is!
    snake-river-02-small.jpg

PERRINE BRIDGE - Seven frame panorama (60mm FL) of the bridge. You can see the visitor center on the left and there is a walkway that takes you under the bridge's south approach over to a trail on the east side (view is also looking toward the west). The image above is just on the other side of the bridge.

EASTERN WASHINGTON - August 2025. These shots are all on the same stretch of highway (HWY 17 and HWY 155) with a distance of only ~40 miles (~65 km) from Lenore Lake (south) to Banks Lake (north) - with Sun Lakes and Dry Falls in between...

    View to old town

View from south part of Tallinn to old town. It's ca. 6 km in distance so not very sharp due to atmospheric disturbances. This view is only possible in small specific area as in other places it's blocked by trees and other buildings. I guess soon this view will be blocked by trees so in order to get similar view one has to climb up to ski jumping tower ca. 1km away...

Thanks for running this thread over the last year, it's been great to take part and to see everyone else's images from around the world.
Here are a few of my favourites from the last year...

    Edinburgh from Salisbury Crag

Galloway hills. Last year saw us move away from Galloway to Cumbria, and this was one of the last images I took there.

Nice composition, with the falls balanced nicely by the foreground rocks. And those colours in the water 😀 Looks a good place for a swim!

Great textures here. Looks like a great place to explore with a camera!

What amazing landscapes. I think we europeans find it difficult to comprehend the vastness of these places. I spent quite a while exploring the detal in these and then looking up the geology of the region - fascinating. One of the great things about this (and related) threads is discovering parts of the world that I will probably never vist and would never have otherwise found out about. Thanks for broadening my view 😁

I like the composition. My eye wanders through the image- in a good way. The only thing I'd change is getting the water a bit more silky with longer exposure (but I recognize that is entirely personal opinion).

Nice series. I like the third one. Like the tree is standing guard with the way you composed it.

A couple of recents. The bus stop is a 2 image composition to help with exposure. Not sure about the color on the forest one. I started with Classic Negative (for those familiar with that simulation in the Fuji world).

This is excellent... and the IQ is super. Also Galloway hills, Upper Swaledale, Local wetland winter sunset, and Morecambe Bay coast. I recall when you posted the last two a few weeks ago (IIRC?) and especially liked "local wetland winter sunset" - well done!

Thanks for the comment Woodsider. Yes, I completely agree! Looking at all of the nice pictures being posted, I am always interested in the various locations, the geography/geology, the history, etc. It is fun to check out the back story... and learn something new... getting to know another part of the world (a little bit). These threads are great for things like that. I would love to go to Edinburgh some day... history? Yes, "vast" history! LOL. :-) And take some pictures of the bridges (right up my alley).

Many thanks @tprevatt for all the entries you've made this year.
It was a pleasure to see your region of the world through your B&W lens. This together with your dedicated B&W weekly thread has rekindled my interest in monochrome!
My favourite "Modus Operandi" is still colour, but I'm now thinking more often about scenes that would benefit from the B&W treatment and sometimes go on trips with only B&W in mind :-)

This shot is another good example. You've managed to nicely show the texture of the rocks in both the highlight and the shadow areas.
Including the lady, adds some scale and interest

Thanks for joining and contributing !
Nice to see the shots you've been posting, I have the feeling they have been getting better each month ;-)
As Woodsider already mentioned the shots here show some tremendous wide open views of a huge landscape area.
Well composed and full of detail.

That long long speed drive sounds interesting, what was that all about?

Thanks also to you @Vahur for all the views you've posted of beautiful Estland, especially Talliin and also from your icy holiday trips elsewhere.
In this shot the muted colours and hazy atmosphere lend a relaxed feeling to the mood. Looks like you got it just in time before the trees grow higher ;-)

    Thanks.

@Woodsider79 It's always a joy to see your ideas and images posted here.
They are a good mix of intimate landscapes, beautiful areas , geological insight and artistic experiments with double exposures and ICM etc.
And of course often with fantastic light!
