    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

I found this from 2015. It's 'sort of' landscape.

Here's a street-scape taken full-spectrum with a Sigma SD1 DSLR having removed the UV/IR blocking filter from the lens mount.

With all of the trouble going on, it seems somewhat silly and odd to post/discuss pictures. But when you are out with the camera and or fiddling with the image on the computer, it helps take your mind off of these things for a little while. I try to use a thread like this as weekly motivation. I managed to take one one picture this past Monday (Lake Union / Eastlake) and I will also add one from the archives (Mt. Pilchuck View from 2021).

This is a view to the south east from a lookout on Crows Nest Road which runs up over the hill from the Victor Harbour Road down into Pt Elliot. The town in the middle distance is Middleton. The town surrounding the water is Goolwa. The water is the Murray River after it has flowed back out of Lake Alexandrina. If you look carefully there is a break through the dunes along the beach. This is the mouth of the Murray River. I took this just a couple of minutes before sunset.

Great light with that bright patch in the sky reflecting in the lake. The 2 tiny paddlers add some interest and an element of scale

Nice shot of that bird. Very sharp.

Interesting how using some false colouring for the, usually invisible, far ends of the spectrum makes such a big difference. I wonder if there are any animals that can see this widened spectrum of "visible" light plus UV plus IR ?

I'm glad you found that motivation and have added shots each week!
Love the many countless layers in the archive pano shot.
The rocky details with light and shadow in the foreground formations is good; it sort of anchors the scene for looking out into the huge depth created by all those distant layers slowly fading away.
I get the impression that I've just hiked to the top and I'm now enjoying my reward of the summit views

The gentle colours are gorgeous, warm and subtle. It was a good time for the capture.
Your description makes it all the more interesting to look at all the details and get a feel for the land.

Birds can see up into the UV. A horse does not see outside the visible spectrum but has very sensitive vision. After its eyes acclimated for about 15 minutes to the darkness - a full moon to them is like mid day to humans. The hose can see on a black moonless night as well as we can in the brightest full moon. While a horse cannot detect heat signatures it is sensitive to IR thermographic tools used in veterinary diagnosis. Many snakes that hunt at night have good IR vision as they find their prey by heat signatures.

I like them both. The feeling of spring is strong with the clean colors. The blue is not too overpowering in the sky. The second one reminds me of one of those paintings where you have to squint to see the image. I like the abstract created by the shutter speed.

I was wondering if some animals can see both IR and UV and everything between, as it is shown in @xpatUSA 's image?

You've found a nice "intimate landscape" and composed it well. The silky water is shown nicely with a pure white.
Interesting to see how you have processed the image and warmed up the reds and oranges compared to the same scene with the phone shot.
We all have different tastes of course; for me, it is saturated much more than I would have done. I'm sure there are many that find it very attractive, sort of full of colour & fantasy.
I will re-calibrate both my monitors today, just to make sure I'm looking at the image you intended :-)
