    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    Juknokwon Bamboo Park

Now that I’ve retired, I’m trying to catch up with some photobooks from various trips and holidays that we’ve made in the past. Currently, looking at South Korea from way back in 2019. So here’s a few from a slightly misty day at the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest Park, near Damyang,
    All reprocessed today.

Some great images there. The one looking up through the trees is a favourite for me.

That's a beautiful landscape. I hope she got a trout or two 😁
The white clouds are nice and fluffy. Maybe you could raise some of the shadows just a tiny bit, to make the foreground just a touch brighter

Really like the framing in the first and third image.

A bit of Roosevelt Elk in the 65x24 format. F/1.2 on purpose to help isolate a bit. Taken out of the drivers or passenger window of my vehicle. They are quite common in this area.

The pano format is working really well here. It's great to be able to get so close to such fine animals.
My favorite is number 2, closely followed by number 1
The separation using F1.2 really makes them stand out and look sharp, almost 3D.

A spooky tree next to an old church. I like the vibes!
The key-stoning effect sort of emphases that mood too.
    Tonality is good.

Santa Fe Picacho Peak View - There's almost too much to try and "get it all in" but you have to try, I suppose... because this is the view when you reach the peak. Just a short hike (about 75 minutes each way up and down; approx. 1500 feet / 450m of elevation, IIRC). This is an 85mm series of shots. The old town of Santa Fe is off to the right (not visible, but you can just see the start of it). I took a 20mm sequence about halfway up that is even WIDER and has a slightly warmer color (different lens) but not as detailed due to the FL difference. Temperature was much warmer that usual for this time of year (85F/29C) whereas it is usually 55F/13C. Elevation of Santa Fe (city) is 7000 ft (2133m) and the top of this peak is 8577 ft (2614m). This is the lower sub-range of the Rocky Mountains with some peaks as high as 12,000 to 13,000 ft. (~3900m). I think that's all I have this week landscape-wise!

I like the vibe as well. Very old world. I like the contrast contrast balance. I might be tempted to clone out the more modern looking sign in the lower left third. Waiting for the horse drawn carriage to pull up at any moment.

That is really nice. The color/tone especially. Quite a herd! Somewhere in northern CA? Can you provide some insight into "65x24" (?) I am not familiar with it. Did you simply crop for this aspect ratio? Is it a stitch of some sort? Or is this an internal feature on the X-T5 that generates a composite (and if so, how)?

When looking at the small version of the pano shot here you just see a huge wide open space, it all looks a bit flat. It is not until you open the full res version and zoom into the details, and start to search around, that it become interesting. And there’s a lot of detail in this shot! At 2600m you can see for miles.
In our open air gallery we once had a guest local photographer that displayed some detailed drone shots, from high up, of our local town. It was interesting to see how the viewers gathered around those big images, got up close, and looked for their own houses, roads, or just places they knew.

Thank you. This is in Northern California, very close to Prairie Creek State/National Park (joint state/national park). There are a few herds that roam the area.

The 65x24 format comes from the Fuji medium format built-in pano option. I started to see it on some YouTube channels I watch (I've also seen it on Hasselblad cameras), and really like it. There has been some hope in the Fuji community that it would come in a firmware update as a native crop option for the aps-c 40mp sensors. The image here is not stitched. I cropped from the original image in post by selecting it as a custom ratio in Apple Photos.
