    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

Travelling on a train, in a tunnel ;-)

Travelling at the moment, but, thanks to the wonders of modern technology,
Here's a start photo for this week's Landscape thread.
It's just a snapshot taken from my phone, ...
Went skiing in January this year, and the landscape scenery comes for free :-)
This one with a few additional colourful skiers enjoying that view.

    Green and White

Taken a few years ago in Armenia. The last of the winter snow melting away into a sea of flowers.

    Sunrise

Snow - sand both hard to walk in. On the other hand a chilly morning at the beach is shorts and T-shirt weather.

I like the balance in the curve of the creek and snow patches. They play off each other nicely. i might clone out the very top bit of the snow that leads off the image.

I like the juxtaposition of all those foot steps, but no one is there. The horizon is a bit off?

These are nice. In the top one I'm drawn to the big leaf in the foreground on the log. The bottom one is just the sort of textural subject I enjoy. I might trim a bit off the top to balance the dark trees with the amount of water.

A study of green and white, and shape and form.
In the hi-hes view the textures and those little yellow flowers below the snow can be seen nicely.
You can't go wrong with repeating patterns and "S" shapes ;-)

I like the contrast in this shot. Dark trees, bright sand.
And the texture of the sand with all those thousands of foot steps is good

You got me thinking that there must be something similar to snow shoes, for walking on sand.
And sure enough, a quick web search soon showed the first example, designed by a grandfather, a retired engineer, a wide sandal, called the shore-shoe :-)

As already mentioned by Meeces, the horizon is a bit wonky.

I like that first one; it reminds me somehow of a wedding table decorated with thousand little red stars.
Its composition is good with that strong diagonal line and the meandering stream.
The complimentary red and green colours dominate and show up particularly well against the darker background.

This is a very nice photo! I really liked it. The ice melts and it becomes small streams. It can’t be captured more sublimely.

This was an interesting image to edit. This beach was closed for a year after Hurricane Helene roared though followed by Milton a month later. None of the palm trees are plumb. I was standing on the top of a picnic table to mitigate keystoning. I used the two trees on the left to define plumb. That is consistent with the navigation signs on the far left side and between the third and 4th tree from the left side in the water. I found it difficult to use the horizon because of the fog out on the water did give a sharp line for the horizon. What appears to be the horizon is really the top of the fog line. Turns if I rotated it a few degrees clockwise to make the top of the fog line on the right and left sides perpendicular to plumb, the image might look better plumbed, but then none of the trees or signs would be plumb.

I just threw my hands knowing that if I printed it I would rework it.

Looking to capture an image this week, so a quick backyard shot with the old 70-200 VR1 is in order I suppose. The old horse has been sitting on a shelf because I tend to use the 80-400 instead. I took oodles and oodles of kids soccer pictures with the 70-200 for 8 years (2008-2016) -- middle school, high school, premier leagues, college -- I'm surprised it still works (zoom, AF, VR) because I "worked" it really, really hard... standing on the sidelines trying to capture all the action.

    That's a great cloud study.
