    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and re-posting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and re-post images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    How time flies!

These shots were captured and processed back in October 2012 during a short break in Styria, Austria.
Autumn colours in vineyards work wonders.

My trusty old Nikon D90 only had 12MPixels, but still seemed to work just fine 😊

Beautiful. Magnicient colours. That shot looking down the rows of vines captures the landscape's undulations magnificently

Beautiful. Especially #2. As I recall, the D90 (12 MP) had slightly better IQ than the D300 (12 MP) -- different sensors. But I didn't know that when I bought the D300 (my first DSLR) back in 2008... so, of course, GAS set-in immediately! Like you, I sometimes go back and view those old images... and they are actually quite nice even though we have been very fortunate over the years with the way the equipment has evolved. Although... it is probably more due to the memory of the time and place when the photo was taken. :-)

My contribution for the week is another... "walk around the yard with the camera" -- and one one of these days hopefully I will "get out" and take some real pictures! This thread is a motivator for me to get out and shoot -- kind of like a P52. So that's what I am trying to post. If for some reason I can't get out, then I will find an archive shot to fill-in. For now, basically snapshots.

Backyard start. The tides were low last week, so, I went for a noontime walk. This is looking northeast, but the walking route will be "to the west" (toward the LEFT in this image)....
    01-walk-around-the-point-small.jpg

Walking west toward The Point. It looks like there's no access, but there's plenty of beach around the rocks to the left. I don't have a picture of "The Point" specifically... since the only picture I took includes my wife... and she probably wouldn't want everyone to see her cute little mug.
    03-walk-around-the-point-small.jpg

Now we are around the point on the south side, looking "back" toward the west. Over the past 125+ years, there have been a number of maritime activities situated here, and these are some old concrete foundations sitting below the rock seawall.

A little farther east (on the south side)... again, looking back toward the west:

Sunset later on in the evening:

A backyard tug picture (from the prior afternoon) -- looking northwest:

    Survival and Rebirth

"Leave it alone, mi amor. It's in the trees nature to be stubborn. It's a survivor." Guadalupe Garcia McCall

“I would not sacrifice a single living mesquite tree for any book ever written. One square mile of living desert is worth a hundred 'great books' - and one brave deed is worth a thousand.” Edward Abbey

The Mesquite grows where little else will as its roots drill to find ground water. The bark is twisted and gnarly - but tough. It was so tough that the Spaniards valued it for ship building. Being a legume they fix nitrogen to the arid soil, making it better for other plants. Their pods are a prime staple for livestock today and in the past, indigenous peoples of the deserts of North America. The sap was used for medical purposes.

While it might be small, it is mighty.

Very nice images . A beautiful area with some great wines.
I knew that the Mosel flows through Germany and just saw it flows through France as well, of course it has to come from somewhere ;-)
Last photo looks like the German side. (City of Cochem?)

    Thanks cpm
My favourite is number 1 with the bright red wild wine growing over that hut with the vineyards in the background.
Yes, the cameras have certainly got better over the years, but it's still always up to us to point them in the right direction at the right time ;-)

    That's an interesting set!
I guess a P52 is talking a photo, or a set of photos, each week for a whole year ?
...Then the Weekly Landscape is indeed ideal for that venture.

All the shots here are very clear and crisp and tell the tale of that walk.
The colours in the sunset shot look somehow quite "metallic ", like a sheet of bronze glinting in the setting sun, very nice

Certainly sounds like it's equipped to be a survivor.
    Nice shot !

Looking at the first shot seems to play ticks with me.
I feel I must be very small, and close to the ground, like I'm a small dog looking out into the big world out there ;-)
That mossy bank in number 2 with its rich colours is quite impressive

Indeed all near Cochem in Germany ... Love the wine, hence the visit. Of course it's the Moselle on the French side !

Some great shots of the Pacific NW when it is clear. Beautiful skies. The sunset is stunning.

Yes time goes get away too fast. The closest I have gotten to Austria is Bad Aibling Germany. However, you photographs allow me to visit. Looks like wine country.

Nice set, I particularly like the first image, Nice composition, complemented by an interesting sky and calm water reflections.

I have been to Germany numerous times. Unfortunately it was for work and was limited to Berlin and Bad Aibling. I should have taken more time and spent some time in the countryside. It was also before the reunification between East and West Germany.

I intentionally got as low as I could, so the tripod is only about 12 inches above the ground. Thought it was kind of a fun perspective.
