    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and re-posting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and re-post images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

    Wolfsegg

A 15 minute drive takes us to the Austrian town of Wolfsegg. It’s known in German as a “Luftkurort”, which translates to “air spa” or “climatic health resort”. It’s about 100m higher than our little village and the air does seem to be somehow good there. The views are also good, although there’s always that typical haze in the distance over the Alps.
Every now and again we’ll walk around the 7km “Panorama path” at Wolfsegg . The route goes through the forests and up and down a bit with a total of 250m elevation. So nice and easy.
Here’s a few shots from last weekend

    The Ground is on Fire

We keep being drawn to the Dakotas, Montana and Wyoming every summer. Somehow we always end up in Yellowstone for a time. Yellowstone of course is an active super volcano where even dominated by fragile ground covering steaming pools and springs.

Sunset (again) -- My range this week was very limited (too busy with work) so... another back-yard sunset shot. As I said the past 2 weeks, I will TRY to get "out" this coming week and find a more interesting subject. :-) Although... I will continue to take pictures of this view over the rest of the summer since the sun will eventually be setting even father to the north (end of June).

Very nice! This picture could EASILY be mistaken for a view around here... which is why I need to get out for short/easy hike to a vantage point that allows me to take a similar photo. Excellent IQ.

Good shot here. I can understand why you like to go back again and again!
These volcanic regions certainly look quite otherworldly. I remember being very impressed with such areas in Iceland; not only with the steam, but also the smell of sulfur and the multiple bizarre colours of the different rocks and pools.

Sunsets offer great subjects, often with completely different and sometimes unexpected effects, with whatever the clouds have to offer :-)

Many years ago I helped my young son do a school science project where we shot the sunset about once a week in the winter from our balcony: After a month or so you could easily see that it had changed the position and time of day of where and when it set.
All obvious and easy stuff, of course, but nice for the young ones to see it all working and get it all documented ;-)

In our old home I used to mentally track the position of winter sunrise across the Cotswold horizon; It was interesting to note that it was out of step with total day length, and that days begin to lengthen a couple of weeks before the sunrise 'turns around'. In our new home, I track the sunset instead. We've only been here a year, so I don't really have the detail yet, but in midwinter it sets over Morecambe bay, while in midsummer it sets over Bow Fell. That's when you can see it of course 😉

Beautiful. Sometimes 'getting out' just seems too difficult, but I usually find I feel better for it.

These two are the most attractive to me.

I love volcanic landscapes too. This one seems particularly other-worldly. The deep mysterious pools in the foreground play off perfectly with the steaming forest edge.

That looks like a great hike!
I think I prefer the panorama shot best.
Ascending 700m is about the limit of what I like to do when hiking.
You were definitely rewarded with good views at the top.

p.s. I included your images inside the thread for you here.

I like the second one best with that turquoise water and the reflections from the snow covered mountains.
Just looked up Mono Lake and found it is very alkaline and very salty,... amazing what I learn looking at the photos in the Weekly Landscape thread ;-)
Apparently water from the lake is piped 520 km to Los Angeles and treated, I wonder if it still tastes "funny" after treatment?

I cn't decide which of these I prefer. All have a great sense of open space, sky and mountains.

Mono Lake and Los Angeles have quite the bitter/legal history with each other over diversions and lake levels being maintained. I'm not well versed on it, but suffice it to say the lake is nowhere near what it used to be, and it only where it is due to those legal battles.

It definitely has that sense to it, especially without much in the way of (or any) clouds in the sky.
