    The Weekly Street Photography Thread

Welcome to the street photography weekly thread.
We are hoping to get your images and hear what other members think about them.
It is open to all members of the forum; members can post a single image or a selection of images on a theme in a single post. Multiple posts are allowed.
What constitutes street photography has always been debatable. There are several opinions about it, and we do not want to restrict participants. You can post whatever you deem fits into the genre; however, please be prepared to hear criticism as well.

    Guidelines:
    1. We aim to increase the popularity of street photography and encourage our fellow photographers to be more interested in the genre.
    2. Give your photo a title and include any other information you think is relevant. I personally love to know why you made this photo, what attracted you to make it, and why you like it. But this is NOT MANDATORY.
    3. A single image or a theme-based group of images are allowed. No multiple posts, please.
    4. If you post an image, that means you are ready to hear feedback.
    5. We want to hear your thoughts about others’ posts.
    6. Please keep all posts civilised and polite.
    7. Unless specifically stated otherwise by the original poster, please do not modify the images.

Another shot from my vacation in western Canada. This is in Calgary. I was on the Skywalk and found this tableau to have a kind of dystopian sci fi vibe.

ETA: Feel free to download and modify anything I post.

I took this image of a streetseller's truck filled with melons. My 10 year old grandson suggested making it B&W and I vignetted it to make it look older. What do you think?

Who are the people in red? At first I thought it was some sort of uniform, but there are at least three different versions of the red garment.

Yeah, I was wondering if this was a ceremony for the new Archbishop of Canterbury. But I'm an American and not an Anglican, so that was just speculation. If it is that, I'm not sure "street" is applicable... ;)

Though not a photographer, I enjoy other people's work in the field.

As for "Street Photography", I take a broad view. Anything going on in a public place is fair game. That said I would say it's stretching the point maybe a bit too far to have an indoor space devoid of people and call it street. Since I started lurking here several months ago, I have yet to see any images here that, IMHO, did not fit the category.

Yes, a bit of context would be interesting.

It is an interesting sculpture. I think the shot might have improved if a person were actually inside it. Thanks for sharing.

Nice juicy watermelons. When I was in Turkey a couple of weeks ago, they were really cheap, unlike most fruits.
I think BW conversion is a right choice but vignetting is too sharp for my taste.

They are members of the "Worshipful Companies". I must say that the capture is not as strong as I hoped for but I find the event was interesting

Here's a few photos I recently took at a very small town pride parade in Germany. I was there as one of the official event photographers, so I tried to go with shots that were more street-protography-esque, rather than the more deliberate event-photography shots of the musical and drag performances (barring one), political speeches, slam poetry and requested portraits. I've bee doing quite a lot of event photography recently and I really enjoy it. I do wonder hough where the ines between street photography and event photography blur a bit. A pride parade is on a street after all.

The event was really lovely. It was the first ever pride parade in a small town really close to the Austrian border and I know the main organizer. They planned he whole thing in an absurdly short amount of time and it was a pretty smashing success. It was also the last hot day of the summer. One last time, marching through a town in 30°C heat, really felt like being back in June. Two days later the weather turned cold and it has stayed that way.

    Maybe no vignette at all?

Cameras generally do not produce elliptical vignettes, for your flattened scene even circular vignette may not work - but you can experiment with different light falloff profiles.

In Corel PSP software there is so called "retro lab", where you can set different properties for vignetted area, like size, center, darkness, blur, glow, color shift - I think I would experiment with size, darkness and blur.

Lighroom has something similar. I like vignettes for some pictures. But here's the one with no vignette at all

Black-and-white definitely works, and the vignetting does too -- but not for the usual reason. It was not uncommon in yesteryears to use an oval mat when framing a picture. I have a lovely diptych of photos of my parents at about the age of three. The oval framing used emphasizes the antiquity of the pictures, which are about 100 years old. The extreme darkness of the vignetting here gives that same effect to the watermelon truck.

Thank you, now it is easier to comment :)
Your first vignette (completely black) for me looks actually the best for this image, it removes a lot of distraction (and distortion) and helps to keep focus on main subject. It looks like photo-frame.
Semi-transparent elliptical vignettes look a bit unnatural (to me).

I took the liberty to edit your original, non-vignetted image a bit. It is only a quick edit (geometry, slight vignette+blur+glow, contrast), I won't include preview - you may change that, if you wish :) -
