    The Weekly Street Photography Thread
Welcome to the street photography weekly thread.
We start it on Fridays. We are hoping to get your images and hear what other members think about them.
It is open to all members of the forum; members can post a single image or a selection of images on a theme in a single post. Multiple posts are allowed.
What constitutes street photography has always been debatable. There are several opinions about it, and we do not want to restrict participants. You can post whatever you deem fits into the genre; however, please be prepared to hear criticism as well.

    Guidelines:
    1. We aim to increase the popularity of street photography and encourage our fellow photographers to be more interested in the genre.
    2. Give your photo a title and include any other information you think is relevant. I personally love to know why you made this photo, what attracted you to make it, and why you like it. But this is NOT MANDATORY.
    3. A single image or a theme-based group of images are allowed. No multiple posts, please.
    4. If you post an image, that means you are ready to hear feedback.
    5. We want to hear your thoughts about others’ posts.
    6. Please keep all posts civilised and polite.
    7. Unless specifically stated otherwise by the original poster, please do not modify the images.

    Weeding photographers' hot spot.

I like the way the couples and photographers are laid in the frame. The other people cause some clutter, but I think it’s still nice enough to keep. The photographer looking down isn’t cropped; he was sticking his head out of the staircase structure to compose his shot. His subjects were at sea level on the bridge.

The amusement and awe on the children’s faces are priceless. I wish the gorilla’s face was in your capture too.

Bright and colourful scenes obviously attract viewers and pull them in. They successfully documented people and a slice of their lives. Perhaps more clear, unique angles and compositions, drama, emotion, and movement with human figures could make your work even more impactful.

I'm seriously not a people photographer. It's just something I have a bit of a crack at when I'm off holidaying in strange cities from time to time. I have shot family events for a couple of friends, informally, just for a bit of fun and to help them out. Even then, I prefer to try and stay a bit anonymous, in the background, and capture the more normal, relaxed, true to life feel/vibe of the event. Rather than the typical posed, stereotypically cheesy pasted on smiles.
I mentioned before that this is damn hard to do where I am, in far north China in some of the smaller towns and cities, as I don't think they see all that many round eyed whities in these parts. I stand out like a whole fistfull of sore thumbs :)
I love shooting Ultrawide, but to do that here with people without being noticed is pretty much impossible :) Even when taking photos of the small, mini electric vehicles I end up in a discussion with the Grannies and Grandad's, curious about what I'm doing. I imagine if I spent more time here and people got a bit more used to me things might change, but that's not going to happen. I'm still enjoying myself, that's all that matters to me. Cheers 👍

I'll throw up another example :) See the girl wiping her boyfriends face? I thought I'd gotten away with that one, just a quick lift the camera, snap, and continue on my way. 20 metres down the street, I get a tug on my sleeve, and she's asking me if she can have a look at the photo. For sure, and I scolled through everything I'd shot in the last half hour for her, and explained what the strange Whitey was doing so far off the beaten track.
To give you a bit of an idea, I've spent months here over last few years, and in that time I've NEVER seen another Westerner. Not even at the airport.
    Oh, yeah, the photo.

Today, I went on a street photo walk with the Manchester Photography group. We were given a series of challenges to do - it was great fun and made me think about why I was taking what I did. Here's some pictures, with explanations. Feel free to comment.

First one - Barriers. This is what I took:

The guy was sitting behind the barrier and I waited until he was about to take a bite to eat. Title is "Barrier to food"

The girls handbag caught my eye as it matched the colours of the shop letters in front of her.

Them it was "Squares. I found a cube of a square 😁

Then we were asked to think of a word and go and spell it by finding matching letters in the surroundings. I did that, but found it boring, so I'm not posting that here.

Lastly we had to put our cameras into manual focus mode, focus on something around 2 metres away and leave it there. Then, walk down the street for about 10 minutes and take pictures with the cameras at waist height and not looking at what we wanted to take. I found this quite interesting in a street perspective and got these ones which I quite like:

This guy was seriously 'into' his phone.
    Concentration.jpg

The two people here, oblivious to the world while walking along
    Oblivious to the world.jpg

The poor guy, trying to get people to accept his leaflets - and no one was.
    OK - ignore me.jpg

There was a bloke either taking or giving all that water. I just liked the colours.
Buying or selling - who knows.jpg

Lastly - and this was nothing to do with the tasks, I saw the organiser with his back to me in front of the barbers, and given his lack of hair, it amused me.

So, there you have it - another lovely day out and I got a few pictures out of it all.

I completely agree with you here. People react as if we’re stealing their souls when we take their photos, not taking them. I can’t think of any malicious intention behind someone taking photos of people in the street other than using them for wicked AI-related stuff. At least in the UK, there’s a legal freedom that will prevent us from getting into trouble, but it won’t stop people from causing bitterness. Meyerowitz mentioned this in one of his speeches, suggesting that in the past, people were actually happy to be photographed because they thought it was a nice thing to be considered, it was easier then. So much interesting stuff happens in life, and most of it goes unnoticed. I believe it would be nice to capture it.

It’s always better to have a theme in mind than to try and find something random.

    A barrier to food.jpg

I did not get this one the way you did, sorry to say that it does not work for me.

    matching colours.jpg

I think there is a nice colour theme is going on here, the bag, the wall and the shop sign: They all look like linked to each other

Focus zone and hip shot combination is used very often and can be pretty interesting. The framing can be difficult but a wide angle lens like you used can help.

The headless photographer leaning out of the frame is great. Actually, you have told us what he is doing, but looking at it fresh without reading the text, the I see the couple descending the steps, with the bride(?) in an unusual costume, all enclosed in the concrete stairway, but he is directing his view away from this, away from the group and into a scene we cannot see. It creates a tension between what we can see and understand and a hidden world beyond.
