    Pieve di Toano

I went back after several years and several cameras, to photograph the Pieve di Toano, in the mid Apennines above Reggio. It was once part of a long gone castle and it dates from the end of the 11th. century. It has some interesting column capitals including a dragon munching on some unfortunate sinner.

It was badly damaged during the Second Worlds war when the German occupiers burnt it down, during the brutal partisan war that took place in these mountains in 1944/45. Some of the capitals are discoloured due to the heat.

Did the soldiers who started the fire, know that they were vandalising a monument founded by Matilda di Canossa, a Germanic queen who is an important figure in German history?

    I'm gonna say no.

I like this shot a lot. It takes me back to Italy where that sort of light in old stone buildings is frequent. I miss it out there. Annoyingly, my wife has booked up to go for a week with a mate so it won't be this year now.

I like the tone of the first much more. It looks a little vintage. It reminds me of a photographer who's name I can't place. Shame the plane is 'in contact' with the lamp posts but no biggie.

What a lovely series! Great fun. The drone shot actually looked excellent.

    Yes, I agree too!
His drone shots were mainly of our local village and were popular with the crowd; as they tried to find and identify their own house, or a local lane, or a forest or meadow,...

    Bees on lavender
Here's a second post from me this week. Just playing with the new Z macro, 105mm /2.8 this week in the garden.
I tried to get a nice gently colourful, and creamy background.

Difficult, trying to line up the bees on the lavender with a nice red rose directly behind them!
They move so fast and the Z105 macro is definitely not the fastest focusser on the planet!
My old 105 F/2.8 - F mount macro was noticably faster!
Pity, I sold that to my brother, but at least he is happy and the new one is smaller and lighter :-)

I would choose this one, but with a square crop to lose some of the space on the left.

    Thanks, it was fun :-)

    A drone for me?
-well I think it would be fun; lots of interesting compositions to be had from a new perspective.
Probably fun to learn to fly the thing too.
But, they are so loud and annoying for others that I'll pass at the moment.
I don't like it myself when I'm hiking in some beautiful and possibly serene place and someone starts flying a drone nearby :-(
Doesn't happen here very often, but when it does it sounds like a swarm of bees is about to attack you.
Maybe they'll make them quieter at some time in the future, and then maybe I'll get one :-)

Nice to see waterfall water with some high shutter speed texture.

That second waterfall is lovely with the water snaking downwards in diverse rivulets
