I'm having more than the usual problems with this forum slide show not displaying photos in the order posted. It is very annoying and really distracts from my ability to enjoy the work posted and comment to the correct photographer.

Agree. It was quick grab shot because it was freezing and I intend to re-take it.
Great series. My fave.
Undoubtedly the technology is moving forward at great speed and I periodically use my phone (samsung S21) in the absence of a real cam, but to me personally there is no comparison. There is a place and time for it, but It's all about haptics. It's like driving manual vs automatic...
Nevertheless, good shot. It demonstrates what can be achieved with today's smart phone lens.
I enjoy Q2 more than I expected. I think subconsciously I am conditioned to like it, regardless of what after spending all this money :)
Both very nice shots. Interesting how the coat and hat match the period of the large wheel bicycle.

Agree. Apparently Admin is working on solutions. We have to be patient. I hope Flat view vs Threaded is on the top of the list...

First one for me is the winner. Excellent.
@Wormsmeat has written:I recently spoke with Nigel about the quality of mobile phone photographs. I recently upgraded my cult classic Pocophone F1 to a mid-range Google Pixel, purely because I wanted a better camera. They seem to get among the best reviews at each price point. To say I've been pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I thought the daytime shots would be good but didn't expect difficult night shots to come out as well. I took the phone to Thailand and I think this is the first shot I took with it. A quick handheld snapshot (auto everything) in Bangkok as our group were hurrying across a footbridge, very late for a restaurant booking. Not perfect but my other phone would have turned its nose up at a shot like this. This is straight out of camera. I could improve it in PS but wanted to show what it could do on its own. It'll get better as I learn the settings.
I met with a few esteemed New York photographers (formerly of this parish) on Tuesday night and was surprised to hear that one of them almost exclusively uses her mobile now and has turned off EXIF data when she posts on Flickr. The results are amazing and she receives just as many plaudits as before, if not more. That is quite impressive. especially when taken quickly under the conditions you mentioned.
Remarkable how sharp the background is for what looks like quite a long exposure time, seems longer than 1/25s in the EXIF, looking at the long white lights of the cars (but maybe those cars were just driving faster?)Perhaps I need a new phone :-)
I have not been over impressed with my Samsung S20 phone for landscape photos, although it does do a great job of easily and quickly making OOC shots that look pretty good on a phone screen, and they are immediately available for sending to others on Whatsapp.
Very handy indeed!!
Perhaps that is why the German name for a mobile phone is the "Handy" :-)But, here is a comparison of a "big camera" and that S20 phone for almost the same scene last weekend.
The Z7 picture is zoomed in to 120mm, while the phone is zoomed less, to only 76mm (equivalent)
The phone pic is completely untouched, straight OOC, while I have developed the Z7 RAW image and edited in my usual way.
If you download and look at the details in the mountains and in the trees, the differences are quite obvious, especically if it were to printed big.
At first glance they look similar but yes, break up on closer inspection.
I believe my mobile uses a technique similar to Olympus' Live Composition, it takes a base exposure then adds moving objects to it.
Trellis
Art in urban development.
That's a good angle.
Grrr, why can't one delete a post?

I like that concept of the same shot at different times of day, or year.
The last two shots are a great example.
I once did a series of 4 pics from the same spot when I was fishing, from early until late and the results were quite successful.

Some people link to shots on Flickr etc. rather than uploading the actual image.

I like the expression on the guy's face. The processing is a little flat by your standards?
The second is a fine shot.

These were taken on consecutive days less than 24 hours apart.

Interesting idea. I could link to my lightroom gallery. However, I haven't seen anyone else do that and without that it doesn't help me viewing their photos.
None of these problems... no delete... flaky slide show... threaded conversations... exist on dpreview.com. I haven't been here consistently this year so I don't know what conversation transpired that caused you to decide to keep this thread here after dpreview.com announced that it would stick around.

Because the guys here invested a lot of time, effort and money to get this site running when DPR announced it was closing. I felt it morally right to support them after DPR changed its mind again.
Castello di Carpineti
This is one on my favourite places in the mid Apennines, with some lovely views. There was an extremely strong wind blowing and the bad weather causing havoc in Tuscany, was trying to breach the Apennines. I have posted pictures of this castle before.
We call this "nubi di sbarramento" which has no real translation, the nearest being blocked clouds, it is usually a sign of approaching bad weather from Tuscany. Not even hand held HDR allowed me to do justice to the scene, without falling into HDR over-processing.
This is a medieval castle that sits atop a steep escarpment. It was one of the fortifications erected by Matilde of Canossa a medieval lady warlord It is now closed for the winter, but it is easy to enter via a hole in the back wall, for a clandestine visit in the winter.
