When I visited South Korea at the end of 2019 just before the pandemic started I saw it was quite normal for some people living there to wear face masks, it was the social norm for people with a cold to put one on to stop the spread of whatever they had. It was winter time and the mask was a bit of protection against the cold, and it was also a fashion statement!
They just treated it as normal, but I found it a bit strange at that time, and took a few candid shots of masked people on the street.
Returning back to Europe the pandemic broke out a bit later and we were soon all wearing face masks. Times change!
When I saw someone wearing a face mask in a super market last week, I just assumed he was either vulnerable and protecting himself, or he was ill and protecting others. Both good. The number of corona cases are rising again at the moment.
No, I'm not breaking new ground in a different woods, it's still Brinscall Woods, but this is the oldest part of the woods that used to be known as Hodgkinson Wood. While the rest of it is less than 100 years old, this area has been there much longer.
Both images taken on a tripod with the GFX100S + 45-100 f/4.0 and a CPL. I've tried to keep the editing as natural looking as possible, although both images contain a significant number of edits.
Edge of Autumn
The Wall
This is a bit of a tricky one compositionally. The full image is significantly wider, mostly on the left, but I've cropped it in to remove a very bland looking tree that's just off to the left, this does leave the warpy tree standing a bit too close to the edge of the frame for my liking, but I think it's better than the alternative. Also the leaf covered area on the bottom left looks far too empty in the full image. I think I need to return to this spot and experiment a little further.
What a Difference Two Weeks Make
These two pictures were literally shot a fortnight apart. There's not a single leaf left on the trees in the 2nd shot.
