Evening walk in our snowy village
Just before driving off for a weekend in Mühlbach I thought I mustn't forget the tripod, could be some good use for it.
Arrived and found I'd forgotten it anyway.
So these are hand held and just edited briefly with an ipad.

The row of chalets is fairly new, we found a new (for us) path where there's a nice evening view of them

This is the ski path from the ski lifts back into the village

Big long icicles at the pub. I have the feeling the owner has a hose pipe up there on the roof to feed them ;-)

In the factories I've seen in China, it's quite usual for the desk workers to have a quick power nap, like in his pose here, at lunchtime.

Different compositions of same scene with different PPing. I cant decide which one is the best.

Modena

I thought the group of sculptures, known as the "Madonna della Pappa" ( Pappa, is the Italian baby talk term for baby food) in the Cathedral, would make a nice subject for the Christmas cards I make each year. The group of terracotta figures was created by Guido Mazzini in 1480 for Francesco Porcini and his wife, who appear as the two figure in the foreground. A servant ( note the hole in her blouse), is blowing over the spoon to cool the soup before before giving it to baby Jesus. I decided the group were not Christmassy enough in the end and ended up with the usual snow scene.

I also shot some picture of the Cathedral exterior.

The Bell tower and Apse, suffer badly from subsidence, and lean quite dramatically

The light and minimalistic way of the composition are very nice.

These shot make me feel cold, but I must say the I missed the snow. The icicles are scary but beautiful. I hope no-one needs to walk under them.

They are definitely interesting figures but I think you did the right thing by not choosing them for your postcard.

When I saw the cathedral shots, I thought your new lens betrayed you :)

I read about the tilt lenses and how they work first time last week. Before I had not known how they worked, it reminded me the bisecting angle technique

Those chalets are just so photogenic. And that ski path is amazing.

Bizarre that these were made in 1480, they look so modern, even Disney, because of the bright colours.
I really liked your first cube shot last week BTW.
I heard about the tower in Bologna that is in danger of collapse.

The wind is messing my hair!

This long tailed tit is not much bothered by the wind, maybe just a little bit

Shadow projection

On top of peninsula waves come from 2 sides creating this crossing pattern

Bit further these crossing waves created spectacular crashes

Ship hiding from wind in bay

I love these small birds you photograph. You give them so much character.

This is like something out of a film. Brilliant!

I'm a sucker for a dramatic seascape so the last 3 do it for me.

I'll take that.

Colmar

It's been a miserable week here weather-wise, so I've not been out with the camera, concentrating instead on clearing some of the backlog of editing holiday snaps. Colmar is a little gem of a town, in the french part of the Rhine valley, which has miraculously escaped the ravages of war over the centuries.

What does Colmar, in eastern France, have in common with Gdansk? (This is your festive season quiz question 😉)

It's another one of those places known as the 'Venice of the North'

It also has many fine renaissance buildings, including this one, the Pfister house, built in 1537.
