    Art for Dead Men Walking

I have photographed this set of terracotta figures before, but I had some time in Modena before what I wanted to photograph opened. This opera: Compianto su Cristo Morto, by Guido Mazzoni(1477-80), was commissioned by the "The Confraternities of the Good Death" in a church next to the prison to confort those condemned to death.

They have a couple of nice museums in Modena. The Galleria Estense, is what is left of the Duke of Modena's art collection and the town museum, which has not had the curse of the modern architectural makeover yet.

    Brass
In Gaziantep, there are several small shops that make copper and brass articles. This particular one was a large ornament for a company’s headquarters. He spent nearly three months on it and will receive around £12,000.

These were taken nearly 3 weeks ago.

So anyone know who was at work here?
seems a bit low down for a woodpecker

Some wonderful craftmanship in this shop. Did you buy anything to bring back?

This one seems almost like an English landscape. Perhaps because summer has not yet burn out the grass, and thre is no heat haze.

    Pictish art

No new photos again this week, but a couple more from our recent visit to Edinburgh.
Scotland's National Museum was a frustrating experience for me. The collection is 'organised' by 'theme', with no regard for age or provenance, so roman tombstones from the Borders share a cases with neolithic burial urns from Orkney and so on. If you have an interest in stuff of a particular age or from a particular place it's just an impossible mish mash. However I did find some fine Pictish stones with the crescent markings which they commonly bear. I've read that this may represent a celestial theme of some sort. These are from 4th-8th century.

    P1044287.jpg

Meandering aimlessly around, I later found some very fine pictish brooches, and it struck me that the shapes bear a notable remblance to the stone carvings, except that the brooches are alway displayed the other way up. Perhaps the museum curators have missed something there...
    Rotated for your convenience 😉

The shot is good, nicely composed with lots of detail and depth.
Lovely clouds and lush green fields. The leading lines in the foreground , guide you in to the next layer.

...I hope your eye-op recovery is progressing well

Somehow very foreboding. The falling snow really adds to the bleak atomsphere.

I remember these. Astonishing. Not sure I would find them much of a comfort though.

Great shot of the craftsman at work (I think they call that an 'environmental portrait?)
Not sure I'd want it in my atrium though!

The snow really ads to the impression of finding ourselves in front of an army of zombies.

    Does look like woodpecker activity.

Nice gentle light in this one. I feel spring may be creeping up...

    Very interesting !
Looks like it's made of gold :-)
I'd love to be able to make artistic objects like that, but sadly lacking in all the skills needed

I like the contrast of the snow, against the woodland. I find this an attractive picture.

Probably is a woodpecker. They make holes in the search of bugs inside of the tree. A brave woodpecker though.
