    "A New Toy"

Could not resist the new Nikon Z28-400 superzoom. I wanted something longer with good IBIS/VR for Architectural details and for landscape. Here are a few shots I took just to try it out. Like the 24-200 before, it has exceeded my expectations. I made these pictures in Reggio Emilia, and along the River Po.

    Return To The Woods

It's been a while since I've visited Brinscall woods, in fact, quite surprisingly, I hadn't set foot in the place since November last year, but this week, with my lower back still feeling a bit fragile, I decided to go for a wander in the woods with the GFX kit. Like I say, my back has been giving me grief of late, so I only took the body and two lenses, 32-64 (equiv to 25-50ish in full frame terms) and 45-100 (36-80 equiv) in a sling bag along with a tripod as hand holding shots in the woods with anything I own other than my old Olympus E-M1 MKII never goes well.

All images taken on a tripod with the aforementioned kit and a CPL, then processed from individual raw files in Capture One Pro 23.

1 Before entering the woods, I wanted to visit som ruins outside the woods that I'd once stumbled across a little further South, but didn't manage to find them, so I ended up walking back up the Goit from the southern edge of the woods. On the far side of The Goit, there is a relatively inaccessible part of the woods (i.e. no paths there, I'm sure with some determination it's accessible), it's all a bit chaotic, but there are some interesting groups of trees and the rising slope of the hillside behind prevents the sky from being much of an issue when shooting across the river.

    DSCF7648.jpg

2 This is another shot taken across the river.

    DSCF7662.jpg

3 As I made my way upstream to the point where you can cross on an old concrete bridge, I noticed an apparent path that I hadn't spotted before, climbing up the steep embankment on the far side, so when I crossed I decided to check it out. It may have once been a path, but it's not been consumed by muddy sludge washed down the bank, so I didn't get very far along it. However on my way back down, I did spot the vine covered tree and if you squint at the lower right, you'll see early signs of bluebells.

    DSCF7665.jpg

4 Looking deeper into the woods.

    DSCF7667.jpg

5 Another curious tree. This one's got a curved branch sprouting from its base.

    DSCF7683.jpg

    6 More hints of bluebells.

    DSCF7684.jpg

7 Scrambling further up the hillside through the woods eventually leads to this long forgotten path that descends from the main woodland path into a muddy swamp.

    DSCF7692.jpg

8 A bit more of the ruins.

Tales from The Krypt, pt. 2

Second day in The Krypt started with band which members remained incognito. I was unable to get any messages from their growl but deciding from the placard carrying message "Orthodox or death" and behaviour the theme seemed to be around that. Also they had some devoted supporters, who performed cockboxing against each other. It was made in good spirit manner and fallen ones were helped on feet by others but it seemed dangerous in such small room, as in front of stage were metal stands for light and smoke. Fortunately only one excessively drunken person falled to it and knocked over sound monitor, so no harms done...
Second band was the one what I went to look. Some of you may remember this band photos from autumn. This time there was no firework, which is understandable for such small venue. But show was great and lead singer performed well, she knew how to act to camera and several times during show I saw that she was looking at me and anticipating that I'd photograph her. What I gladly did, it's hard to resist to such powerful witchcraft :D
Third band can be described as gregorian chant dipped into black metal: slow and powerful music and growling. It was mesmerizing experience.

My MacBook was broken, so I sent it in for repairs, but it came back with a different issue. Now I have to send it back again, it is a pain; the weather here is cold and miserable; I have to deal with a landlord who asks more rent for my business; I can't take photos I want to. So I am not feeling very well at the moment.

Good luck in getting your problems sorted.

This picture comes at a time when we celebrate the end of WW2 in Italy. I had quite a few colleagues in London who fought on the Gothic Line or my first Chief Engineer who was at Anzio. This picture reminds me of those guys, who probably experienced things we cannot imagine.

    Karst mountains

Exploring the mountains of southern Albania. Just posting from.y phone whilst on my travels.

Is it a bronze age tomb? .... No, it's a communist era bunker, one of thousands that pepper the landscape of Albania.

Albania seems to be a popular destination at the moment. Lots of people here have found the seaside a good budget destination. The interior I immagin is a bit more wild. Let us know how you get on.

You found an edible frog like my one.

I recently bought a 2nd hand Pana Leica 100-400mm Mk I lens to go with an older G7 and a couple of kit lenses I bought last year to get me started in m43.
I posted my first outing pics and first impressions on the Panasonic page here dprevived.com/t/first-results-with-pana-leica-100-400mm/5816/

Here are a few from subsequent outings - an outing for me is mostly a walk to a nearby dam where I have been spending plenty of time shooting dragonflies.

The birds aren't much as haven't really had many opportunities. We are into autumn now so the dragonflies are thinning out.

I have been playing with aperture to get deeper DoF when there is enough light.

I don't even have to think about sharpening if I get the shot right.

1/. Not good separation but I like the slightly oof with higher f-stop better than the totally mushy lower f-stop

    P1010223a.JPG

    P1010186a.JPG

    P1000902a.JPG

4/. I have had better in flight shots with the FZ300 but there aren't so many opportunities now.

    P1010135a.JPG

5/. Rainbow Bee Eater. Heavy crop of long shot. Included just because this bird has incredible colours in flight both above and below. I have only seen it twice and I am going to need good conditions and far better skills to get it in flight...

    P1000925a.JPG

6/. Willy Wagtail. Pretty common but they all over the place and hard to get in focus. Included because these guys have attitude - they will torment cats 2 feet above because they know the cats can't get them - fun to watch. Sharpened because oof...

    P1010011b.JPG

7/. Poor framing but I like the rendering. Not sharpened at all - she has white eyelashes on that eye.
