Thought I'd clear out my out tray. These have been hanging around for ever and seem to have a similar feel. Not sure they are good enough to post individually but might work as a group.

    Alpi Apuani

On Tuesday I took a day off to explore some places in the Garfagnana and Alpi Apuani, in Tuscany. The mountains are famous for their marble quarries.

To try and escape the hot summer we are having, I climbed up to Campocatino an old summer camp for sheep farmers in the days when transhumance was practised.
It is now being restored and the huts are becoming holiday lets, but some of the atmosphere remains. After a good lunch, it was back down into the valley for my usual subjects.

I stopped off to photograph this church strangely embedded into the mountain. A Buongiorno to one of the residents , got me a little guided tour. The paleochristian carving is pretty cool. The guy gave me the names of another two little hamlets to visit, which had some interesting things to see.

Pieve San Lorenzo was on the list for my Romanesque project.

Monzone is just another tatty mountain village in the Apuani.

Borsigliana was one of the places that was suggested. It was was on my way home and I was already behind schedule. So I will return here and try and see the inside too. The door lintel was carved in the 14th century. But is still in a more primitive style.

Ok, I had to google transhumance. Those huts are charming.
Pieve San Lorenzo is also charming.
But you've been away from the UK for too long if you think Monzone is "tatty".

These two are my picks. Lots of curves and diagonals, plus the tiny figures, in the first and the incredible rabbit hutch vibe of the second.

    It's not Olympic, it's Panasonic

Noticed that in local shop Panasonic's 10-25 was sold and bought it immediately. This is lens what I've eyed long time as thanks to its maximum aperture and focal length it seems to be best lens for concert shooting. I've rented this lens once and it worked OK, now I have shot 2 evenings with it.
On Thursday night there were 2 Spanish bands bringing heat + one local band. All playing death metal. Great experience and more beers than needed to break my training plan for next day :P But it was well worth it!

Some really good shots in this set, especially 1 and 4. I have a preference for close in portraits for this sort of shot.

I have always found a few beers makes for better pictures.

    Hergest Ridge

I haven't done much photography recently, being preoccupied with domestic affairs. After a week spent visiting friends in old haunts, headed homewards via a stopover in the Welsh Marches. A pleasant hike took us along the Hergest ridge, right on the England - Wales border, with far reaching views from the Long Mynd to May Hill (as visited by NCV the other week) to the Brecon Beacons.

Some fine mountain scenery there. Have you visited the quarries?
    Nice village details too.

A blustery day. You had more British weather than we had here. Is that May Hill in the far distance in the second shot?

I think my wife wants to go back to this area. Next time a little further North towards Hereford.
