Another take on a "room with a view".

I must get down to that part of Tuscany.

    Vigoleno

Last Sunday, visited a couple of places to add some material to my sprawling Romanesque project. First stop was the cathedral museum in Fidenza near Parma. I wanted to see the La Maestà mariana by Antelemi. The museum has in interesting Romanesque font, as well as a lot of Baroque art, which frankly does not do much for me. The Matroneo, the elevated part of the Cathedral where the women were once confined to, and which I particularly wanted to see was closed. So I quess I will visit again one day in the summer when they have more staff.

I wanted to visit Vigoleno again, as I was last there in the Summer, and it was a bit chaotic. These short days are good for blue hour photography too. Vigoleno is a hilltop village, built around a medieval castle. It has an interesting Romanesque Pieve.

It has been a while since I have used the 24PC on a tripod with the D850. I am still amazed at the amazing sharpness of this lens. All the museum shots were made with the 28-400 "superzoom", which I still find surprisingly good.

An amazing lens will amaze, I guess.

I thought the first was an arty shot of the back of a king with a crown and a shawl and was disappointed to realise otherwise. Actually, what is that?

That chasuble is extraordinary and a new word on me.

I like that wacky wall corner.

My fav is the one above although it drives the eyes a little crazy because the building on the left has tilting horizontals whereas the others are level. It's a superb shot.

    Exploring

Since taking possession of our new home just outside the Lake District National Park in mid-October, we hadn't seen a glimpse of the view from the house due to the unremitting gloomy weather. Until this week.

The sky cleared and the temperature dropped. Wednesday brought a beautiful clear dawn, with frost and a spectacular view from the house. The distant fells of the Lake District can be made out on the horizon, the leftmost high point being The Old Man Of Conniston

    PB274035-Enhanced-NR.jpg

    Earth Shadow

As the sun began to rise a beautiful Belt of Venus formed over the hill on the opposite side of the valley (Whitbarrow Scar). The purple band close to the horizon as you stand with your back to the rising sun, is the shadow of the earth.

    PB274036-Pano-4.jpg

Taking a walk as respite from trips to the recycling centre, we discovered a local wetland, Park Moss, with a bird hide overlooking the water.
    PB274058.jpg

There are many beautiful old stone field gateposts around, this one overlooking the 'moss' next to the wetland

Very nice street (?square) scene. The romanesque sculptures are wonderful, as ever, especially the wall corner and the capital with its two tailed melusine. You should make a composite image of the many melusines you have shared over the years.
