Strangely enough this last one is my favourite.

BW works in this situation very well, perfect timing to capture shadow in right position.

First is my favorite. Wind is indeed nuisance in such situtions, I haven't done much stacking in the field, but for some closeups I just try spray and pray to get some in focus shots... I have heard that some fix plants so that they don't move as much in the wind, but I haven't reached to that level yet.

    Purest Green

Just a handful of pictures from Saturday this week. In the morning, I headed down to Duxbury woods with the GFX100S plus tripod and lenses in tow for a short stroll along the river. The light wasn't great and I wasn't really in the mood, but I managed to grab a few shots that I was reasonably happy with.

Later that day, I went back to the same woods for a longer walk with a friend. On this occasion, I just took the little X-T50 as I try not to inflict myself in full photography mode on friends when I can help it, so despite the much improved light, I only took one woodland shot that I particularly liked, which I've included here alongside the shots from its GFX cousin.

I initially lined up a X-Pan panoramic for this shot, but after a bit of contemplation of what I was really responding to in the scene in front of me, I went back to 4:3 and tightened the composition onto this group of backlit trees. Backlit trees are a bit of a theme here.

This view is looking downstream along the river Yarrow. Yeah, I could bring those shadows at the bottom up a bit more, but I find it more dramatic leaving them dark like this.

A rare (for this set) front lit shot. I was mostly drawn to the tree on the left. Also notable the blue sky above the canopy, a rare treat in this part of the world.

Back to the Yarrow again for mostly backlit foliage. At the spot I took this there was a lot of foliage, forcing me to get right on the edge of the bank above a steep drop into the river. There were still a few large leaves in the foreground of the shot on the right hand side and I came very close to falling in the river leaning forward to hold them back while taking the picture. As I leaned forward, my forward foot slipped a little way down the bank, fortunately I managed to shift my weight back and not go tumbling into the shallow waters below.

I've repositioned myself a little further down the bank here and can now see beyond the same bifurcating tree on the left to the lush vegetation on the far bank. As the stream originates on peat covered moors, it has the trademark brown tinge in its waters.

This was taken on the later trip with the X-T50, so unlike the GFX shots it's handheld and didn't involve a circular polariser. The light had shifted to the other side of the river by this time and I think it looked a lot better, the midges seemed to be enjoying it in between munching my flesh, the morning crowd had politely left me alone, but after most of the day hovering above the water, this lot seemed to be kind of ravenous.

First one for me. It has a softer feel to it that works well.
