    Some birds

Haven't posted birds for a while, now since I'm out of other shots I'll present some.

Common snipe. Its separate tail wings make specific sound so it's easy to recognize this bird.
    P6032885_DxO.jpg

Scored some swift shots but as you can imagine most of the shots were either out of focus or swift was partially or completely out of frame. I'm too old for this swift...

    Yellow wagtail

Citrine wagtail. It's much rarer than yellow wagtail and seems to be more cautious, so far I got only distant shots of this specie.

Really nice shots Vahur. These two for me. The Rosefinch looks so unassuming sitting there.

    "Summer"

The first morning of summer came in cool and blustery, a huge contrast with the warm dry spring. I usually take a walk up on the local hill, Sizergh Fell, after breakfast. On a good day the views are magnificent; peaks of the lake district to the NW, Pennines and Ingleborough to the east, Morecambe Bay to the south...

Beautiful sunshine... but what's going on with those clouds in the distance?
    P6015086.jpg

And wher's Kendal gone? That's Sizergh castle in the middle distance.
    P6015087.jpg

Breeze is getting up... Seems to be lots of PIgnut flowering everywhere this year.
    P6015107.jpg

A squall swept in and I had to shelter under one of the meagre hawthorn trees on the side of the fell. I was thinking of pictures of the oxeye daisies dancing in the wind, but kept getting raindrops on the front of the camera, and didn't like the prospect of lying down in the now wet grass. Eventually gave up.
    P6015115.jpg

    On the way back down I came across two new orchids;
    Common spotted orchid

Interesting place. I wonder why the sculpture of folks in raincoats? I like the play of light and shadow - must be more possibilities to explore there.

Nice to see more of your bird shots after so long 😀
The snipe is a great catch. And the swift - I can really appreciate how hard these are!

    The walk that never was.

I had carefully planned out a walk in the foothills above Reggio with map in hand, trying to reduce the climbs to a minimum. About a quarter of an hour into the walk, I was supposed to cross a narrow ridge. After climbing up, I found some sort of erosion had caused a huge sinkhole about six feet deep. It was too dangerous to skirt round the edge. End of walk.

I did come across a really weird orchid on the way back, to the afternoon morphed into macro photography. I returned the next day as I was not happy with the pictures of this strange plant

This was near the sink hole. This is a very Iron rich clay.
