    HRL

HRL stands for Hard Rock Laager, i.e. hard rock camp. It was over this Friday and Saturday, 22 bands, each performing 1 hour, so it was quite intense experience. Additionally on Friday it rained so area was mud pit after a while. I managed also to fall on my back to mud (I guess couple or even more pints of beer had their share in this as well) and now I'm cleaning my stuff from mud at home. Also my camera got muddy: had my OM-3 with new 25 mm 1.8 lens, did not shoot bands as there were enough photographers and I have no press pass to get into shooting pit, but tried to capture vibe there.

At first I yhought that there on right side is sailing boat.. I like this angle, the mountain makes nice line, sky colours are also great here.

From this angle it was hard to understand what I'm looking at, quite interesting pool, this black edge makes interruption where one does not understand where's what.

Great shots, these 2 are my favorites. You managed do well with BW, I don't have such open landscapes nearby and trying BW in forest or park is quite hard, I guess because our eyes are most sensitive to green colour and if this info from green is removed then we lose lot of information and everything turns into uniform mess hard to understand. So you really have to make effort and find something which does not get lost in BW conversion. On open areas it's probably bit easier, I guess, but still you need more effort to distinguish details which in colour photo are easily seen.

I like 2 first shots, lovely narrow streets full of surprises around corners, evening/night light adds mystery.

Hopefully a touch less hot than Italy.
I was in Comporta a couple of years back, there were storks everywhere.
That last hosue shot reminds me of a cartoon. Les Shadoks.

Wow - you're a sucker for that music Vahur. The B&W fight (?) scene is a really good catch.
I like the 8th shot too.

No fight there, just music getting some people so excited that they start running around and bounce to each other, all in good spirit, if someone falls then he or she is helped up by others and bouncing continues. It’s damn hard to get good shot of this because it’s so chaotic and with 50 mm ff equivalent lens viewing angle is bit too narrow to get full picture.

Since moving on from the film days, when I used to develop and process my own monochrome films and prints, I've never had much time for black and white in the digital realm, tending to stick to colour, because one of the big things digital cameras and inkjet printers brought to the table was they made the end to end process of colour photography so much easier and accessible than it was before.

When I got the little X-T50 around this time last year, I initially wrote off the film sim dial as a bit of a gimmick like pretty much everyone else did, but I quickly found myself using it a lot as a quick way to switch between colour and black and white modes, having found that removing colour from the viewfinder image removes a lot of distractions from the scene before you, simplifying it to leave you with just light and dark to compose with. If the composition doesn't stand up to scrutiny in black and white, it's probably not going to work well in colour either, the exception here being where the colour is the main driving force behind the image.

I think it's certainly worth trying from time to time, even if you always intend to switch back to colour for the final image anyway.

Yes, viewing supposed result can help a lot: i use with om-3 creative dial quite lot and with mono setting I can previsualize result in bw allowing me to see if shot is something worth in bw or colour. I’ve set camera to shoot jpg small +raw so I can share monochrome jpg images easily but if wanted or needed then can fall back to raw for full resolution and colour. So far i haven’t needed raw or colour version much if mono seems ok, only in some difficult or low light situations i’ve used raw processing. And getting result without tedious computer processing seems to make photography more fun again...
