    Poor's Pond

Not a lot to post this week, but here's one from last week's walk on Poor's Allotment. This is a rare area of lowland heath in Gloucestershire.

Got out again last Sunday. It was all a bit of a disaster. The place I wanted to photograph was closed. I fell back on my second choice nearby, but on the way back home my out of date SatNav took me down a main road that suddenly ended, as a new bypass had cut across it. Cut to a wild goose chase around the outskirts of Bologna as I had to use road signs, as sat Nav went into confusion. Must get it updated!

Anyway, I revisited Monteveglio near Bologna, which I photographed some years ago without shift lenses. I also dug out my old (20 years old) Sigma 12-24, which I discovered focuses on the D850 (id did not on the D810). On a tripod I still like this lens. Monteveglio is an old fortified abbey in the foothills of the Apennines, near Bologna.

I eventually made it to Nonantola, an abbey near Modena. I have photographed this place before, but I wanted a 15mm shift shot of the exterior and interior. Time had run out so I just took a couple of shots.

Another beautiful romanesque interior. The contrasting pink/cream stone is a nice effect. I wonder what's behind the fancy shutters?

This is lovely. I like the shades of pink, but the clouds on the horizon are the icing on the cake.

    Defying cold and wind.

Haven't used my camera this year but today decided that it's time to take some shots for this weekly. So out I went at noon but did not feel like I'm able to get something: winter has come but even if it were relatively warm with -6C it was windy and with windchill it felt like -15C. This wind meant that all the snow was down from trees and it was hard to find something to capture. Finally I noticed some snow whirls and tried to capture them. Unfortunately they seemed to appear not in place where I was and I had only 25mm lens with me so these attempts did not produce much result and after getting my fingers freezed I decided to bag my camera. After some warm-up at home I decided to take tour in old town during dusk to see if I can capture something representing this winter weather.
