Wonderful lions! They remind me of the lions of Delos ancient-greece.org/archaeology/delos/

    This Week On The Nab

This set is the culmination of a couple of afternoons spent on Healey Nab over the past week.

After realising that the OM1's subject recognition and tracking seems to be a lot better than the Z8's (at least in my tests so far), I've been tending to carry the OM1+100-400 f/5.0-6.3 (the original version of this lens that doesn't do Sync-IS) for photographing wildlife along with the Z8+24-70 f/2.8S for landscape/woodland duties.

I like the landscapes toward the end of the series.

    Ice age

Took walk along beach today. Looked for bearded reedlings, but they were nowhere to be seen or heard, I hope that they were just hiding somewhere from wind and cold, not dead from cold we had for 2 weeks. So without reedlings took pictures of sea, wind and cold cooperation.

Shot across the bay toward city center.

A superb series. This looks like a still from an apocalyse movie. I think you might have lifted the exposure on the grey snow a tiny bit but not so much it loses atmosphere.

Really good. Normally the competing focal points might detract but they don't here.

That's a very striking statue. The darkened background makes them pop too.

Late to the party this week, I am bogged down with work, and it rained on a photo trip I had planned. So here are a couple I stumbled upon, from a work vistit to Mexico some years ago.

Elf and Safety at work. These guys are high above the ground, in an Automatic Warehouse I engineered.

When I lived in London the Grand Union and Regents canal, were one of my favourite photo haunts. I have walked most of it from Ealing to East London where it ends.

    Still much the same.

I'm still debating how well this OM1 combination compares in terms of quality to using the native 100-400 lens I have for the Z8, I suspect the Z lens is a little superior, it certainly cost a lot more, but it's bigger and heavier, but the amount of heavy cropping I often end up applying to animal photos taken with the Z8 wipes out much of the advantage the larger sensor might have, so I don't think there's much in it in that sense, but having the 2nd camera with me is so much more compact and convenient than lens swaps. The Z8 still seems to be the better tool for landscape duties though.

This is rather spooky. My pick from this set.

    Palace for prisoners

    P8090051xDP.jpg

The face carving above the entrance to the historic Don Jail in Toronto (built in 1864 and closed in 1977) is a stern countenance of Father Time, intended to instill fear and a sense of judgment in the prisoners entering the building. Last hanging was in 1972...

Not the place I'd like to spend time on. But in second image, are there some texts on bottom part of these ornaments? Or I'm just imagining it.

    This Week On The Nab

As the sun set, the opposing side of the sky took on a purple hue. This is looking across Black Coppice towards Great Hill, which has its own private cloud sat upon it. Not much of a view from up there on this night I suspect. The view from Drinkwater's Farm (the trees to the left of the hill) would have been a bit more interesting.

    P1176029.jpg

Here such view is months away, right now it seems that proper winter with snow and below freezing point temperatures is here to stay for a while.
I haven't paying attention and don't know if it's normal, but I find fascinating that group on right side is having these "bells" oriented same way, maybe more close photo showing this could produce more impact.
