Your best set for some while Steve. I must use my Polz filter more often but I tend not to have as much time when I'm out with a camera as you, usually because I'm with someone impatient.
These two are excellent and I disagree about the dog in some ways, not centred in the arch but it works because it's perfectly centred by the two trees behind it.

I wish I had my tiny tripod with me at Kew. There was a great opportunity to use it.
    This is technically well done.

The mossy carpet in these is lovely, so atmospheric. Enhanced in the second by the drifts of leaves.

Yes, I think buzzards are often identifiable as individuals. We used to have a regular visitor to our old house that sat at eye level on top of an electricity pole and stared in through our window. She was very pale coloured. I missed her when she disappeared.

Jeez, that 2nd pic really jogged my memory. I had one of those for years but had had completely forgotten it. It's so odd how much data the brain stores but most of it remains covered in dust until a moment like this.

Thank you sir. This was hand held - well actually I was lying on the ground baced on my elbows. Most of my focus stacks are done hand held as I'm too lazy to carry a tripod 😁

I like the way the stair seems to be seen from above.

I remember the palm house was a fantastic place to visit.

I almost see a face at the angle. The water monster.

Sunny day after some snow (you can see the white rooftops on the houses in the distance). Picture taken a couple of hours ago.

Cool. I remember Parkers back in the day. I'd receive a pen like that (similar) from neighbors or relatives at the beginning or end of a school year (mid-grades elementary and middle school through high school). Usually a retractable ballpoint. Yes, a classic. As I mentioned, I had a lot of Pentel's, Staedtler's, and Koh-I-Noor's in my engineering/drafting days (late-1970's and early 1980's). I wish I had kept them! :-)

I must find my Rotring and Graphos pens. Messy stuff.

Rivington is more spooky than usual with the hound and lots of green moss.

Such crisp light. Maybe we could raise the shadows a tiny bit?

  • March 15, 2026, 3:43 p.m.

On my screen, it appears too dark at the front. Turning up the shadows (to me) makes it better. Do others feel that or is it just me?

Yes! Although... I pushed it about as far as I could without making it look weird and washed-out (the D810 has good DR). I was in my office and my wife knocked on the door... "There are some sailboats coming." -- so I grabbed the camera and walked across the street to try and get a shot. But the mid-day light/angle was pretty strong.

This one is my favorite. The foreground looks like a fiber-mat of sorts (but snow covered, of course).

That is WIDE indeed! I'm seeing "0 mm" on the reposts! LOL.

I used to have Laowa 7.5mm f2 - it did not register with cam, hence 0mm. I switched to native oly 7-14 f2.8 since, excellent optics.

Is this an in camera stack, or did you stack afterwards? Focus stacking is pretty incredible, especially for macro.

Somebody has been munching on those catkins

Stacked in Photoshop. The EM 5 doesn't do it in camera. Also it means I can choose which individual shots to include, leaving background (or foreground) soft.

    Not me 😁
