The Fontanili di Valle Re, is one of my favourite places for a Sunday walk. It is in the Po Valley plain a few miles from Reggio. Water flowing underground from the mountains surfaces here. There is a small nature reserve that echoes the primitive state of the Po Valley Plain. It is a place that I go to when I want peace and quiet. It was particularly nicely flooded this week.

This is a very moody shot.

Your Lenin photo and the information reminded me of Operation Gladio. I bet they were very active in this region.

As others have said, this one is the standout in this set, a truly excellent shot indeed with great composition, timing and lighting. Well done for actually capturing evidence of potholes being fixed. I think I'd have more chance bagging a sharp shot of the mythical Beast of Winter Hill than of someone fixing potholes around here.

But you can never escape politics in Italy. Reggio Emilia is was in the heart of Red Emilia. The Italian Communist Party used to get 90% of the vote out in the country. Somebody still has not got the message that things have changed. If you look closely, you will see the faint word "Zio" in white on the wall behind W Lenin. "Lo Zio" (Uncle) is an affectionate name for Mussolini.

We are also in the world of Guareschi and his "Mondo Piccolo", with Don Camillo and Peppone.

Nice to see you're out and about in the countryside again. I think this one is my pick from this set due to the nice framing of the tree.

Really interesting set. The stacked stone facing seems to suggest piles of paper and books 😁

The contrast with the older city buildings is great, and the misty conditions and sepia tones are just right.

Hard to imagine the whole of the Po plain being like this once. Must be many millennia ago. The last is a thought provoking contrast of sentiments; the slogans past and present, and the delicate blossom. .

Despite doing a number of long (by my current standards) walks this week, most of them weren't photographically very productive. A trip to Birkacre did provide a good variety of bird shots and I also had a lengthy encounter with the Buzzards by the canal that, as always, has me yearning for a longer lens and probably someone to carry it for me too.

T'Moors

Noon Hill

A massive improvement in the weather on Tuesday inspired me to take a wander on the moors and for some reason I decided to hike up to Noon Hill. This is a grassy offshoot from the main mass of Winter Hill about 200ft below the main summit and bloomin' hard work as it's pretty steep. A headless horseman is said to roam this area (I don't know why, the local myths seem a bit lacking in detail on that front), but he must take Tuesdays off as I seemed to be the only restless spirit on the hill that particular afternoon. Instead I had the summit to myself, enjoying a splendid view looking West across Lancashire to the coast while eating my lunch. This is the view from the summit (Z8+24-70 f/2.8S)...

This is a pretty landscape.
Bizarrely, I like the unglamorous little dunnock of the bird shots.

On Tuesday evening I saw that there was fog outside so I went out to see if I can capture any of it. Unfortunately by the time I got my camera out it seemed to thin out, but I still got some moody pictures.
This set is from national library. This building was built during end of soviet era with corresponding quality and material. So if it was decided to renovate it some years ago the building contractor found out that building was in much worse shape than expected and cost increased significantly, over 15 million euros. But seems like now the renovation is completed and according to news library is moving back in their books and other items with planned reopening next year.
These images are processed in DXO, for fun I tried LUT grading on these pictures with bleach bypass type, seems to fit well without altering reality too much.
