Went for a meal in Faringdon, London on Thursday. Met our friends at their swanky flat in The Barbican, a brutalist estate and cultural centre. Known them for years but never been to their home because they now spend most of their lives travelling the world. I took my GM5 because I knew we were going to have a quick drink at theirs before the meal. Unfortunately Southeastern Railways did their absolute best to ensure we arrived 45 minutes late, giving me just a few minutes to overcome my fear of heights on their balcony, compose myself, and grab a few shots. Utterly terrifying place to live but equally spectacular if you don't suffer from vertigo. Determined to revisit again with the Sony and once again see if IBIS is good enough to outdo my trembling. Anyway, this is one I really liked, almost SOOC.

The Dancers

I pass this line of old hawthorn trees whenever I visit my daughter, and I've often thought 'I must stop and find some photos...' So yesterday i made the effort. Not especially interesting light, but then, there will hopefully be more chances in the future.

That's a view to die for! But not literally I hope 😁 The colours are just fabulous. It feels like there's a slight tilt but maybe not.... I'll put it down to anxiety 😉

A little more headroom and this would be a winner.

Shhhh! I've tweaked it now before Nigel sees it. I told him off for something similar last week.

Estonian National Opera Theatre Fair

On last Sunday of August national opera organizes fair, where people can visit opera house and free shows, buy tickets for upcoming season performances, buy old costumes and props. This year I happened to pass by while going to another event and of course I had to take some shots.

Pavia

have wanted to visit Pavia for some time. It has some interesting Romanesque architecture tat I wanted to add to my now enormous project. This is the first of three sites that I visited.

The Basilica di San Michele Maggiore is one of many masterpieces of Lombard Romanesque architecture, the basilica has a grandiose three-nave layout, surmounted by a lantern.Today's building was built on the previous Lombard church and served as the venue for royal coronation ceremonies: here Frederick Barbarossa was crowned in 1155.

The interior is adorned with capitals carved with stories from the Bible and allegorical figures and has an interesting crypt. In the transept, the crucifix known as the Crucifix of Theodote, a masterpiece in silver foil by a master goldsmith active in northern Italy in the second half of the tenth century.

These shots were made on a tripod with the 24PC and my 28-400 zoom. It was a pretty good place and time to shoot as there were few people about. The façade has little space in front of it and I used a very strong diagonal shift to lessen the perspective effect.

Yes, there are a lot of possibilities with this location. Just needs some good light and an interesting sky.

The first is a nice pic but I like this character.
The second here would be brilliant in isolation in moody mono, so you don't the the context.

First two are great but I was drawn to this. That angel is giving the imp short shrift.

Yes, I love these column capital carvings when I see this sort of thing. My Romanesque project was born, when I came across some capitals like these in a small country church.

The Medieval church must have been more fun than todays church with its spotty guitar players strumming kum ba yah, or Imagine. People often ask what is a provocative twin tailed mermaid or a well equipped guy in the nude doing in a church.

Yes, maybe would have been more of a social centre then.
