Can anyone post a link to Thom Hogan's comments on DPR and XenForo? I cannot find the link from a search. Apparently, it's not good.

    Thank you!

Like for many old-timers, much boils down to one thing - information density. Although I was not threaded view user, even for me the information density of old forums was much higher. I suggested to add some kind of compact view there, they added that idea to their to-do list - will they add something compact, only time will tell.

    Hi,

They have, essentially, driven away the majority of folks who possess the information. I have responded to one technical subject since the change. And that was in the barely active Kodak SLR Talk forum. So that thread is not likely to dilute. I keep on with that one because there are only two places on the web to go to for those cameras. And most folks know DPR but don't know of the other one.

Used to be I would have an average of a post every other day across the board. But, no more crusing around looking at all those makes and models. I will just let the misinformation roll on by itself and not make any attempt at correcting anything.

As I was told in one thread where we were trying to convince the ignorant people in charge that this was a bad idea, that those of us against the chage were old and on our way out and so we no longer counted. Ok. Have fun on your own over there.

I was a regular on DPR from about 2010. I now visit a few forums there about once a week. Since their first crisis, I havent posted anything, and I am not tempted to do so. The quality of the discourse has gone right down. Incidentally, I never found the galleries of photos attached to reviews at all interesting artistically. I suppose that just shows that people interested in the technology are not guaranteed to know how to make better than competent photos!

Well, it is a gear site. It always was. I was never interested in making up an artistic gallery. I was always only interested in technical discussions. In fact, I hadn't found the site. It found me. Or, more accurately, the founder found me. Back in the spring of 2000. And he was interested in having an engineer on board who was using DSLRs.

As for now, I have posted one technical item since the change over. And that was regarding failing components in old DSLRs. And that was in the Kodak SLR Talk forum. One of the very few I will continue to keep an eye on over there. That is still one of only two places online for folks to talk about that old stuff.

The few other posts have been just chit chat in the Medium Format Talk forum. The technical discussions which had been frequent in that forum have died off.
