It was below freezing overnight but got up to the upper 50's this afternoon.
Being such a beautiful day, with nothing better to do, I went to look for some birds.
Spotted a few but these three were my favorites.

First, I spotted American White Pelican in the distance,
    O4180186_DxOs.jpg
Caught a few a little closer.
    O4180124_DxOs.jpg
I really could use a longer/sharper lens (big white).
Then I spotted this Bald Eagle ...
    O4180203_DxOs.jpg
    And he spotted me ...
    O4180225_DxOs.jpg
Moved a little for a better look ...
    O4180231_DxOs.jpg
and decided I wasn't worth worrying about.

Next I spotted a Blue Heron stalking a fish. Got it plunging after the fish, then coming up with a big juicy one.
    O4180313_DxOs.jpg
It walked around with it a bit before swallowing it. This is just before it did so.

    Not a bad afternoon!

Wow, Jim, I'd call that a good day. I sure like the pictures of the eagle, the third particularly. Nice stuff. Rich

Yeah, good captures. But I'm disappointed. I thought that bald eagle really was bald. It seems to have a full head of feathers in your shots.

They don't get bald until they get old, Charlotte. Everybody knows that. Rich

You did well Jim. Nice that the eagle landed nearby for you. They say there are pelicans in Ontario but I have yet to see one here.

Thanks Charlotte. It's a young one, still has all it's feathers.

Well, I was standing near the nest for awhile waiting for it to come back.

The pelicans were just migrating through here on their way north.
I saw them on a nearby lake one day last year and got some shots of them on the water.
The next day they were gone.

Thanks. It had no problem swallowing that fish.

A very productive day out Jim. The shots of the eagle are my favourite.
