I took quite a few photos today with a couple of lenses I have been a little cool on lately. Both surprised me for the better this evening.

Dandelion by Jason Doss, on Flickr
Pentax K-1 mII Limited Silver and Pentax-M 35mm f2.0 at f2.0, 1/180s, and ISO 200 at closest focus distance
I had assessed this lens in the past as not being very good under these conditions. The white filaments on top of this dandelion seedhead are sharply rendered and they are off-center, so I've changed my assessment.

    also...

Poppy by Jason Doss, on Flickr
    Pentax K-1 mII and Pentax-M 400mm f5.6 at f5.6, 1/1000s, and ISO 1600
Here's another lens I've had issues with wide open. It is difficult to focus due to thin DOF, but I nailed it a few times today so again my assessment has been changed. Both lenses require careful focusing and attention to proper exposure and technique.

Like the poppy a lot. I have the A version of this lens. Seem to remember it having chromatic aberration. Your copy looks great. Now I have to retest.
    Thanks,

Your raccoon looks great! Nice catch.

My M400 does have chromatic aberration, sometimes bad if there's high contrast areas. I have the A400 too! Both are good lenses, but it's harder to get good images out of the M.

    Here's today's catch.

Just received my Kickstarter Adaptalux Pod Minis. Ordered two with UV arms. This is a dandeline showing the black bullseye center that visually leads bugs to the nectar. Top mounted Pod in boost mode front mounted at 50%. Pentax K-1 full spectrum modified by Kolari Vision. El-Nikkor 80mm enlarging lens with 2mm thick Hoya U360/Schott S8612 filter stack. Lighting arms also have Adaptalux filtering.. ISO 100 F14 @30".

Not incredible photo but fine for a first attempt.

I knew it was going to be a bad day when I discovered that I left my SD card at home. Luckily, the other one was still in the slot. Then I discovered that I had my shake reduction set to 200 instead of 50 (again!). Turns out it didn't matter as this was the only picture I took the whole day. The first couple were blurred, no doubt due to miscalibrated shake reduction, but this one was sufficiently crisp enough to keep.

Nice capture of a cool building @JCDoss. Saved by the double card slot. I've done the same thing. Now there is a collection of original Pentax film camera straps on my main cameras. It holds the tiny remote in one pocket and eyepiece blind and extra SD card in the other.
    Thanks for sharing,

Looks great! Interesting that you‘re using an El Nikkor 80 mm lens - is it similarly effective to the 63 mm f/3.5 version when it comes to UV?

We went to Mainz for the monthly trip to the hairdresser, so I tootled around the farmers' market while that was going on. I took quite a load of photos today. I uploaded 28, not my usual half-dozen or so.

Later in the evening, the dog still needed his walk, so I put on a third lens for the day and off we went.

The lens is better than this photo shows. Nailing focus for a moving target is difficult!
