20 years ago Canon created a small revolution in the world of DSLRs with the arrival of the Canon EOS-300D / Digital Rebel.

The first digital SLR at a truly affordable price for its time, $999.00 less than a thousand US dollars.
In 2003, the vast majority of SLRs sold for between $1,800.00 and $2,500.00 USD.
All the others were forced to readjust their prices downwards... And that was the start of the general switch from film to digital.

I started digital photography with this camera December 2003. At the time it sold for 1099,- € with kit lens in Germany.
To fund the new system, I had to sell all my Minolta gear (film). Still missing some of the lenses from back then at times.
    Since then, I upgraded to 400D, then 7D, M, M3, M6 and finally to M6ii and 2x M100.
I travel with Sony RX10IV and RX100 VII when going by plane.

    Hi,

I saw the thread title and thought 'film camera'. I never paid any attention to the reuse of the model name for a digital variant.

Once I had settled out on a set of Nikon F5 based Kodak digital cameras in 2003, I stopped paying attention to most makes and models that came after. Until Nikon announced the Df anyway.

So, I completely missed the Canon Digital Rebel.

Nice piece of history here. For me, it was the Canon D30 DSLR and then quickly after the 10D. I found the 10D good enough to use alongside my 35mm gear for weddings.

The Eos 10D was my switch from Canon Eos Analog to Digital. And my better half started with the 300D successor 350D

You were lucky to be able to afford it! 👍
The little D30 wasn't cheap when it came out in 2000 - $3,500 USD for a 3 MP.

Wow and you've kept it all these years? That must be worth a lot if it went to auction?

A real fortune you can easily find on ebay for about $50.00 USD 😅

Purchased in 1977 for $15.00 CAD
