This is all academic as it’s actually the “DPR clone” site hosted in Germany that was being discussed, but just for the record the above is false, if Amazon were to deliberately flout GDPR via DPReview or any other site then they would expect to be hit with a hefty fine, proportionate to their size. Jurisdiction doesn’t really come into it, as a company they operate in the EU in any case, but even as an American data controller they will have signed up to the safe harbour programme which places them under the same obligations as any other European data controller; its a prerequisite to processing EU member data. The fact that DPR is closing is immaterial, the authorities would rightly pursue Amazon as the responsible entity.
Hi all, I am here, I think. Taken my protein pills and put my helmet on. Looking for signs of intelligent life. Full of new ideas about being polite to everyone.
Are all the DPR data going to be dumped, or will they somehow still be available?
Mike
I'm happy to see you here! There were a couple of members on DPR whose posts I always read, because they inspired me. You are one of them. I'm preparing to be pampered with more stunning macros :-)
Congratulations to the excellent work getting this site up and running, and trying to structure it familiarly for DPreview castaways. I joined over the weekend, but hadn't tried posting here yet - it was still a little glitchy and looked like work was still being done, and I just wanted to hang back and monitor the progress. Today visiting again for the first time since I registered, I am happy to see the progress so far.
I've just visited Dpreview and been shocked by the news! I am, however, delighted that a safe harbour appears to have been created and I'm pleased to do my bit to push the membership figures a little higher. What Dpreview brought to the table will likely never be replicated, but we do what we can I suppose.. Glad to have joined here though!
