One of the things I liked about DPR was that it would show new activity in discussions I'd participated in. Does this software do it? I'm having a hard time finding threads I got interested in, or getting to the first unread thread.

Yes, if you go to a forum, at the top there's a button which says 'All threads'. Click on that and you can get different options. One is 'unread'. That also works for categories.
