Using the rear panel during BULB mode exposures ?

Hello:
I'm new to the forum (Hi) and new to the a7IV.
When making BULB mode exposures, it seems that the rear display panel on the Alpha cameras might be used to provide useful information like the elapsed time so far for the exposure.
Does anyone know of a way to do this ?
Is there a reason (aside incremental battery drain) why this would not be desired ?

That would be a nice thing to have. Unless I'm mistaken the A7 IV doesn't have that feature. I suppose a third-party remote might display a timer on its own screen.

There seems to be a new function called Bulb Timer on the A7R V that shows a timer (elapsed time or countdown) during Bulb shots.
