Hi Mike,
I noticed the container in the distance and saw the incongruousness of it. Years ago I didn't like containers in rural areas but perhaps their cheap usefulness has grown on me...
The dark blurred object on top is a roll of black poly pipe sitting on a couple of palettes. As the shot was at full zoom 108mm (600 equivalent), the far background is poorly resolved and playing tricks. I was up there again two days ago and there is nothing directly behind the container.

Hi Pete, yes quirkiness nails my feeling when I saw it. It even reminded me of Dr Who when I was a kid, where the blue Tardis would be parked in some odd spot in a field.

Hi Linda, as Mike replied to Paula, they are popular here as a cheap storage shed in rural areas. Some are turning them into tiny homes...

As mentioned above, just artefacts from the far distance appearing between the branches of the closer trees.

Hi Mike, nice shot of the buildings' reflection. That is the sort of shot I look for. The distortion gives them a bit of cartoon character.

Week after week your shots astound us. Another classic. While I have discovered and enjoy macros of flowers, I want to find the time to play with inanimate objects and lighting. However you have set a high standard which may be difficult to match... (I have a small container with 32 different shiny chrome screw driver tips. I have already snapped a couple of it but so far needs improvement).

In my limited experience of shooting sunsets, I found there is a short window of time when the oranges spread across the sky. Nice shot.

Beautiful shot Jim. The reflection is spot on, nice light and colours and the timing just right with it's beak so close to the water.

It's funny how we talk about containers being out of place in rural areas. Sometimes I think cities are out of place full stop. Maybe the dark clouds don't help my feelings in this case. I do like the crane in the 2nd shot bcoz it shows us how these buildings got there in the first place. I also like the period architecture in that street. Number 3 against the spire makes us doubt the height of the Shard claim and 5 is a clever composition. Perhaps only the British would name such an iconic building so literally. But I am Australian, and we are bred to have an ongoing stoush with the 'Poms'. Nice series of a sharp piece of glass... 😉

As others have mentioned, a wonderful shot. So much going on but everything deserves it's place. A perfect poster card to make one want to visit.

Yes. That is a country with some mistique for me and would love to travel there. Paula's photo captures it as imagined.

Me too. The colours lead me around the photo and I see more.

While this is still an everyday scene for Alan, it takes me back to my childhood and scenes that I also used to inhabit, and in those days pretty much all photos I saw were B&W. So for me, the use of B&W is quite appropriate. The same is true for me of movies: I cant imagine Casablanca, The Big Sleep, The Third Man or many other iconic movies in Technicolor.

For me the second goes best with your entry of this week, and I better understand how a wall grouping would be more than the sum of its parts. The first is stand-alone interesting for the person on the balcony, and the second a fun pov of our must-have communication technology. But the last - with palm tree - is by far my favorite. The contrast between tall, skinny, rough textured tree against sleek, smooth, manmade rigid angles is fascinating to observe in the way you've presented.

This looks fantastic and personally I see this as a form of photo art. Good color combination, like it.

Gee I really like this one. Great color contrasts, excellent use of compositional building blocks of shape (triangles, rectangles, lines. Well chosen viewpoint for a reflection.. It looks like an impressionist painting. I'm not sure what all you did to it, other than your color work, but it's really nice. You are gaining mastery of your chosen brush.

I am sorry, though, that you posted it so late in the week when a lot of folks have assumed the thread is wound down for the week. I want lots of people to see this one. Maybe repost tomorrow??

I like the image with the palm tree also. I'm actually fascinated by palm trees. They grow incredibly tall and dwarf everything around them. I think it is so interesting in the way their fantastically strong trunks seem to nonchalantly amble into the air, with subtle jogs this way and that that look so unconcerned. Yet those towering tops stand unmoving far above the upper ends of standard 50 foot utility poles. Unfortunately, photographing them just seems to result in long, skinny images that don't do them justice. I think I'll post a few of my favorites in a future installment.

Crystals are fascinating to almost everyone, and that these are so tiny makes them more fascinating. I'm not sure how you set it up and it probably doesn't matter. They're sharply detailed, complete with dirty edges. Their pinkish tone works well with whatever background that is.

My normal interests are landscape and macro, I am only just beginning to dabble in the world of our feathered friends. Heron's are a perfect choice for me , they are huge compared to most birds, stand still for ages and often seen in scenic locations . The photo is basically a landscape with a bird in it 😀

Love this one - the composition and shapes stand out to me! Very bold and interesting series. Bravo! 👍

OK. Those are the images. What I meant was, do you have a photo of the wall with the arrangement of the group, including the framing? In this case, I think the overall look of the group is important.

I only have one image printed full size. No frames yet. (That is expensive! And will have to wait until there is a commitment). And I have no wall in my house large enough. It will only be if the gallery decides to go ahead that I will be able to show them as a group at full size. I could simulate a down-scaled mock-up composite in Photoshop, but there are lots of other priorities first.

It was the gallery grouping I thought would be exciting. If it happens, a picture of the wall would be an interesting discussion point here along with the original image. Such things can very much change how we respond to an image.

Here's a simulation of the prints, about 40 inches wide with 4" mat borders, hanging on a "gallery" wall 9' high.
