Thanks for all the feedback. In truth, I was playing with masks in lightroom, which I knew nothing about until we had a session on it at my camera club last night.

The photo will not be one going in my 'collection', but I thought the difference was worth showing.

Iphone preview shot from a series documenting the building process of a large residential construction project:

Good viewpoint. The red elements add interest.

To me this shot is really outstanding. You have absolutely captured the essence of a mountain hideaway with brilliant light to assist you.

    The rest are great too.

a & b are great, but c is my fave, by far. It totally captures the immense beauty of the trees. Excellent.

I like this one better, but would do +25% crop to accentuate the horses more.

    Sequence, light and color.

These may look alike but they are part of a sequence shot early morning while watching the sun gradually illuminate some colorful trees at Dale Hollow state park in Kentucky. All with same lens but some differences in framing and focal length. I'd be interested to know if you see one more interesting than the other or if they are all just boring splashes of color.

I like the third photo best.
With vibrant colors and light that makes the leaves glow.

I like this one because of the tonal balance and especially because of the "swirls" around that one bright leaf in the middle ...almost as if you had shot with a Helios 44-2 or a Petzval, kinda ...

Nice bold colours and detectable "boat shapes" in the first.

The second needed a few looks before I could work out the details of what I was looking at.
I think what made it a bit confusing (or perhaps interesting) is what looks like the curtain or sheet hanging up behind the boat

    All those sheets are sails.

The last one has the most potential to become non-boring splash :)
Central part of second one is likely usable too - or maybe entire scene; looking at it in isolation reveals quite interesting color distribution and swirly structure
First one - if you could separate red leaves from greenish (and yellow) background then it likely would be more interesting, I can't experiment at the moment :(

in shot three, the red leaves look to be slightly sharper. This can be an illusion caused by greater contrast. I like the balance of light to dark backgrounds best in 2. I'm a long way from being able to answer minniev's question. Like Arvo, I'd want to do a lot of experimenting and comparison of crops.

I discovered that those images are very display-sensitive - on calibrated screen they all look really good, almost ethereal.
My initial impression was based on 'normal' office monitor rendering, sorry :(

Yes. The viewpoint with the corner of the building creating a diamond form of the structure, lifts everything. The height and angle let us look into the structures as well.
We are off to a good start and I think we will see more from this site as the building rises.
    Nice title too.

It was a lovely sunny morning today. So, I took this - which seems to me to be faily boring.

    QBCF0122_(Large).JPG

So, I've processed it to this - which I like better. Comments appreciated.

I don't like white or colored vignettes. Sometimes I'll add a dark vignette if I think it helps move the eye to a subject but when I do this I use so little that I hope the viewer isn't aware that a vignette has been used. In a nutshell, I much prefer the first.
Here the horses feel like the subject. Would you consider making them more prominent by cropping nearly 1/3 off the bottom? Looking at this large on my screen with a slice taken off the bottom, the snow is still clearly seen and the horses have a stronger presence.

I could probably do it better if I spent more time on it.
