    Trevor,

While I like yours by bringing the building towards me, the left had side now looks incoomplete to me.

Ron, yours is good as the building and tables are now pointed at by the roofs on either side which I hadn't seen before. But it's a bit dark. I think I would lighten up the stall holder.

Thanks for the thoughts both of you.

The problem is that, as it often does, life gets in the way of photography. The old buildings would look much better without the market stalls. In the circumstances, I would have moved closer, to avoid so many cobbles, and to the left as far as I could to be able to see down the alley, without having any of the left hand market stalls in the shot. But I wasnt there, and this probably would not have worked!

    Tiger Leaping Gorge

This was taken during a trip to China at the end of last year. Here, at the narrowest part of Tiger Leaping Gorge, there is a dramatic rush of water as the River Yangtze, or Jinsha as it is called in Yunnan, forces itself through the narrow gap of about 25m (80 ft) between the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the Haba Snow Mountain, which tower another 3,500m (11,500 ft) above. Officially, it is not navigable and when four rafters tried in the early 80's, they were never seen again.

    Great photo and interesting description!
Lots of power clearly visible in that raging river. The white water has just the amount of silky blur that I prefer; you can see the dramatic movement and also still see some structure and texture in the blur

Defnitely need to view this one in full res.
Very detailed shot. Interesting to look around it. Is this a pano?
The city seems to go on into the distance for ever.

    THE LYON AND WINDING ROAD

I wish each and every one of you a happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful 2025.

We (Els and I) are kicking off the new year in cold and wintery Lyon (France), where we enjoy a few days of chilly sightseeing and warm food.

At this start of a new year, let me share an (Iphone) photo of one of the art installations, with a young child at the start of his winding road.

The Lyon and Winding Road by RoelH, 2024-12-31 on Iphone - IMG_8350.jpg

This is another shot that needs to be viewed in full res :-)
Looking only at the thumbnail, I thought that the building was just an eyesore, a delapidated old wreck of a factory with black and white paint peeling off the walls.
When zooming in to the details that "peeling paint" became nice paintings and changed the whole appearance of the shot :-)

I built this bird feeder a couple of weeks ago from a fallen tree branch and a piece of an old wooden table. It slopes a bit... 😳

Finally late this afternoon a family of magpies came to dine on the old dry bread crusts I had put there after erecting it.

This is Junior - I will post some more in the Fauna thread

    DUNLAP OBSERVATORY

Built in 1935 just outside Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Beaux Art style administration building and was a second biggest in the world, at that time. Royal Train carrying King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in June 1939 ( visiting the Colonies) actually stopped to commemorate the importance of the site.

Today, one can visit the place in the summer and see the sky and stars at night through the fully operational telescope.

The attraction for me was the presence of fog, which certainly introduced a new element in appreciation of the buildings and the grounds.

Yes, this is a hand held panorama. Istanbul is very big city (almost 16 million people even more with tourists).

Interesting shot which has more things happening than meets the eye at first glance. There are some black animals on the wall with some intriguing designs on the panels. Also the winding road has some challenging lines and textures. The kid is about to discover new passage...

I was out for a walk in York today. This picture caught my eye. I liked the leading line up to the coloured tables and, on the way, the stall holder with her own colours. What do you think?

    ADCF0056-3 (Superlarge).JPG

Well, image full of contrasts. One either accepts various components or one starts to lop them off...
To me, those colorful benches are really out of place, but ultimately image taker decides what stays and what goes. My 0.02 cents.
