I'm impressed. It's a credit to you that your family responds to good light. It's usually overlooked in manuals on child rearing. My kids became hostile about National Geographic red jackets for birthdays.

All the proportions here feel right. The grandson is large enough in the shot to make the most of his good looks. We have enough of the trees and the reflections to share the location. The splash is easily seen and adds youthful energy.
A note on the colour. I previously suggested that The greens and blues in the shot from Fireplace looked a bit yellow. To a lesser extent, I thought the same here. It's me. You have more blues in your shot and I don't see any yellow cast on them.

I have an "either" "or" feeling about this shot. The slice on the far left doesn't give me enough information about the location so it doesn't fire up a response about the appropriateness or other wise of the doors. Three of these doors and the "No Parking" sign would be quite a statement of opulence and privilege. In a nutshell, I think the shot needs either more from the left or more on the right or both. It's a location worth exploring.

Glad to hear you are soldiering on. You are in good company. Van Gogh, Maier.....

Good action shot and great light. I bet both you and your grandson will treasure this one.

I also trained my family to spot good light :-)
The breakthrough was on a tour through Scotland, where good light was easier to spot :-)

...pure poppy red with those lovely sharp details in the middle, all shown against a darker background to make it POP

    I was thoroughly crushed, despondent, demoralized . . .

    ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Van Gough, Maier, Saul Leiter, Ernst Haas, William Eggleston . . . my Heros!

This particular exhibition was open to everyone (gallery members and the public). The entry fee amounted to $45. Gallery members (membership is obtained by a yearly membership fee of $110, no other requirement) get a discount on entry to open exhibitions and pay a similar amount any particular month they submit work for juried selection.

My wife snarfed, "You should have become a member before you submitted. I bet your chances for selection would have been much better!"

Yeah, I know. I couldn't get further back because a car was blocking me and there was construction debris just out of the frame to the right, which did nothing for the shot.

It is a good word. My grandson and I were yesterday discussing the concept of creative word-making. We have several family-made words, some several generations old. We should all notate these words for future generations! The pleased basking expression on her face explains its derivation.

The grinning character in what looks like an Atlanta Braves cap in the front of the frame is a wonderful inclusion. The sun-kissed Maltese architecture behind them is full of definition and detail, familiar from my own trip a couple of years after yours.

Lovely scene, captured from an angle that makes it even lovelier, with glorious cloud formations blanketing the distant mountains and a generous sprinkling of boulders for interest. Mike had mentioned the yellows as being a little strong in both your and my photos this week. Maybe? I know my camera tends to capture light greens with sometimes more yellows than I remember seeing. I kind of like the vibrancy so I don't always try to tinker with it, and when I try to correct them I don't always feel I've improved things.

Well, copper does age into a nice rainbow of colors for photographers or painters to take advantage of as you do here. You're creating quite a collection of simplified geometric compositions of SoCal architecture. Hopefully your gallery connection will enable you to display some of them.

I remember Grand Theft Auto running endlessly on my sons' game console when they were teens, so I understand.

Old abandoned vehicles, like abandoned houses, always have stories, whether they tell them or not. Both these offerings are very interesting, in different ways.. the first because of the untold story and monochrome details of it, and the second because it's a quirky shot in brilliant colors that remind me of William Eggleston.

Crows and ravens add a layer of mystery to any photo in a way no other bird can. The landscape is beautiful in the same desolate way as Colorado Plateau in the American west, as if the earth's skin is peeled back to expose its bones. Nice composition with foreground/midground/background/sky as distinct but well connected entities. That the bird is dead center near the bend in the foreground is appropriate, and everything else fans out around him. Well done.

The first attraction we notice here is the brilliant rich color. The second is the exquisite detail. Then we eventually eventually discover the fascinating blur of the background. A little treasure.

It is a wonderful and artistic photograph. The distortions create a dreamlike impression and the intermingling of the architectural reflections with the muted details and tonalities of the classical painting are mesmerizing. The curvatures are slightly disorienting, like Dali lost in an ancient cathedral.

Last week I was looking for a specific picture and ran across something slightly similar but not nearly as good, and set it aside to consider for a C&C submission. It was not taken in my Malta trip, so I don't have to worry that we are channeling each other's inspirations.
