The weekly Abstract and Experimental thread
This weekly thread, starting on a Tuesday, allows us to showcase our abstract and experimental photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the creativity of the image.

    It’s easy to participate
Post an image with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:
This weekly thread is for sharing and developing abstract and experimental photography skills.
We want to see wild, creative photography.
Give your entry a clear title and mention the technique used.
Provide constructive feedback on others’ images.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
    ”Likes” are encouraged too.
Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).
Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is an abstract or experimental photo?
Different ways to see and investigate the world around us. Abstract photography reduces a subject to shapes, tones or colors making it unrecognizable. Abstract subjects are everywhere.

Experimentation might include, Infrared, dragged shutter, zone plate, motion, 3D, fluorescence, multiple exposure, birefringence, ultra violet, optical including adapted lenses, tri color, fractals, manipulated Polaroids, pinhole, Kirlian (bioelectrography) and many other methods. Experimentation can be for artistic expression or pure science. It is often more difficult than standard types of photography. This is fine, we aren't expecting perfection. Every experiment enhances knowledge. Your idea can help others explore the universe around them. We love experimentation. You can explain your process or keep it a secret.

This will be a looser collection of photos compared to other weekly threads. This is good. It will be a place to get away from standard animals, babies & sunset photos. We don't hate animals, babies or sunsets. Show us your creative abstract and experimental images.

    Another watery picture

Love the caustic curves you see when looking at how the sun shines through the ripples on the surface and makes those dancing bright lines on the things below
And a golden frame makes it much more artistic 😎

    More watery abstracts

Seems to be a bit of a theme this week, so I'll roll with that. I love taking these, as you never know what will appear when you click the shutter.

    A Landscape Abstract, As Shot

Somewhere in the Austarland area of eastern Iceland, we ran into an errant snowstorm that reduced everything to shapes and tones of its own accord. As my frantic husband wrangled with the disappearing road, we stopped ever so often to get our bearings and take deep breaths, and during these intervals I shot a dozen or so images that I expected nothing from and later found that I liked them.

Oh I do adore this. It very distinctly reminds me of japanese calligraphy paintings. Painting a picture with only the barest brushstrokes always struck me as a sign of a true master of their craft. The black streaks even mirror the way ink seeps into the paper and the way a brush drags over a page. I'm kind of obsessed.

Just enough vertical ripples to supply a little structure to the composition. The natural colors are nice.

Nice curves. Ripples are organizing light into wonderful patterns. I like the composition with the gold frame. The off kilter alignment adds drama.

First image is cool. It adds "texture" between the ripples. The texture is very evenly spaced and uniform. Don't see this often with liquid.
Second image is a little less abstract. The water isn't modifying the view as much. The rainbow like color flourishes add pizzazz.

Wow! Very minimalist image. Everything needed is here and everything else is eliminated. Powerful image. Proves one should trust their instincts and think later.

Fabulous fluorescence display giving off potent colors. Love these crystals. What UV light source did you use?

These are real stalactites / stalagmites in the real cave lighted with color lightes.

These are not speleothems of stalagmites and stalactites types. They appear to be efflorescence of aragonite, a type of calcium carbonate crystals that grows in all directions.

Fascinating. Reminds me of when the cable goes on the fritz and the show you're watching breaks into a million cascading pieces. Except your version is pretty...and artistic looking.

It's the Rock City gnomes! I first saw them when I was a kid, back in the 50s. They were very much like this then, and also when I took my own sons in the 80s. A strange, fascinating display. Well captured.
