The weekly Abstract and Experimental thread
This weekly thread, starting on a Tuesday, allows us to showcase our abstract and experimental photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the creativity of the image.

    It’s easy to participate
Post an image with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:
This weekly thread is for sharing and developing abstract and experimental photography skills.
We want to see wild, creative photography.
Give your entry a clear title and mention the technique used.
Provide constructive feedback on others’ images.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
    ”Likes” are encouraged too.
Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).
Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is an abstract or experimental photo?
Different ways to see and investigate the world around us. Abstract photography reduces a subject to shapes, tones or colors making it unrecognizable. Abstract subjects are everywhere.

Experimentation might include, Stereo/3D, macro, Infrared, dragged shutter, zone plate, motion, fluorescence, multiple exposure, birefringence, ultra violet, optical including adapted lenses, tri color, fractals, manipulated Polaroids, pinhole, Kirlian (bioelectrography) and many other methods. Experimentation can be for artistic expression or pure science. It is often more difficult than standard types of photography. This is fine, we aren't expecting perfection. Every experiment enhances knowledge. Your idea can help others explore the universe around them. We love experimentation. You can explain your process or keep it a secret.

This will be a looser collection of photos compared to other weekly threads. This is good. It will be a place to get away from standard animals, babies & sunset photos. We don't hate animals, babies or sunsets. Show us your creative abstract and experimental images. Are you unsure if the image fits the category? Don't worry, just post it. FEEL FREE TO POST MULTIPLE TIMES TO THIS THREAD. This should be fun.

    Thanks for looking and participating,

Pentax K-7 with Pentax 20-35 zoom. Took nine in camera multiple exposures while twisting the camera around the center flowers. Not so easy handheld. There were times it looked like I was playing Twister :).

An experimental shot with my favorite "Soft-Focus-Triplet" lens, the Enna Correlar with some post processing fun:

Thank you. I need to play with multiple exposures more. This camera tops out at 9. My Pentax K-1 supposedly does up to 2000! Better check to see if it can do it with the electronic shutter.
    Thanks,

Your images always have very clean compositions with a creative and dramatic flair. Always enjoy seeing them. The Enna looks like a nice lens. Good three and four element lenses lack the bite of high tech modern designs. I like the look. Appears to be off a medium format rangefinder. Rules out the Pentax 645Z. Perhaps I'll have a Fuji GFX some day.

Thank you very much - I'm glad you like it! A medium format camera does sound interesting for sure, but so many of my lenses barely cover full frame, so I feel like I would miss out on too much.

Here are some stereo (cross view) shots taken with a Kuribayashi A.C. Petri Orikkor 4.5 cm f/1.9:

Cool effect. I like the movement in this image. The streaks lead the eye right into the building. Lots of drama and color.

Awesome stereo images. My faves are the pipe organ and metal rings. The pipes look so pristine. Interesting how many people shoot stereo on this website. Do these images have to be processed specifically for stereo or is it all in the correct taking?

What a coincidence. I was using a Kyoei 35mm F3.5 wide-angle today for UV photos. According to UV specialist Igoriginal, on eBay, Kyoei manufactured the Orriker, Acall, and Kuribashi lenses. These 35mm lenses are some of the best "accidental" UV sensitive lenses around. One of the few wide-angle choices. Even owners of the Nikkor/Rayfact UV 105 quartz lens use one of these for wide-angle shots.

The background does look like a watercolor painting. It does a great job complementing the sharp subject. The oof colors are subtle and soothing. Your lens has nice bokeh.

    Curiosities about salt.

In the image above you can see what salt crystals formed by rapid crystallization look like during the roasting process of peanuts in their shells.
In the image below are salt crystals grown slowly, in a natural process, in a salt mine.

    That's interesting.
Good shots ! I can see a clear difference. Sort of logical that the slower formation allows for more precise faces.
I'd never thought about that before.

Fascinating. Never thought about how salt changes when roasted. Your photos make the difference very clear. What magnification is this at? It is not easy to shoot at high magnification. Well done. Neat experiment.

    Thanks!
The first image contains a scale that results in a 3mm FoV. For FF equipment a magnification of 12:1 would be needed.
The crystals in the second image are much larger, some have cube sides larger than 2cm.
