The weekly Abstract and Experimental thread
This weekly thread, starting on a Tuesday, allows us to showcase our abstract and experimental photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the creativity of the image.

    It’s easy to participate
Post an image with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:
This weekly thread is for sharing and developing abstract and experimental photography skills.
We want to see wild, creative photography.
Give your entry a clear title and mention the technique used.
Provide constructive feedback on others’ images.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
    ”Likes” are encouraged too.
Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).
Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is an abstract or experimental photo?
Different ways to see and investigate the world around us. Abstract photography reduces a subject to shapes, tones or colors making it unrecognizable. Abstract subjects are everywhere.

Experimentation might include, Stereo/3D, macro, Infrared, dragged shutter, zone plate, motion, fluorescence, multiple exposure, birefringence, ultra violet, optical including adapted lenses, tri color, fractals, manipulated Polaroids, intentional camera movement, pinhole, Kirlian (bioelectrography) and many other methods. Experimentation can be for artistic expression or pure science. It is often more difficult than standard types of photography. This is fine, we aren't expecting perfection. Every experiment enhances knowledge. Your idea can help others explore the universe around them. We love experimentation. You can explain your process or keep it a secret.

This will be a looser collection of photos compared to other weekly threads. This is good. It will be a place to get away from standard animals, babies & sunset photos. We don't hate animals, babies or sunsets. Show us your creative abstract and experimental images. Are you unsure if the image fits the category? Don't worry, just post it. FEEL FREE TO POST MULTIPLE TIMES TO THIS THREAD. Have fun!

    Thanks for viewing and participating,

I think it's taken inside an industrial or storage facility. But what those things actually are...

Your storage observation is on the correct path. Scale needs adjustment. You will be familiar with them.

I'm going to guess backlit cd cases? But I have no idea where that came from... 😂

You nailed it. Note to self hide file name for "mystery" threads 🙂. Turned the photo 90 degrees to make it more dramatic. With the popularity of servers and streamers CDs might not be as popular now. I rip all mine to the Aurender.

Ha! I would never have guessed. Good one. Clumsy of me not to read the file name...

I didn't think of it either and I posted it.

The organic alien style reminds me of H.R. Giger. Like the originality. Glad I don't have to guess what it is. I have no clue. The blood red colors are creepy.

But of course you should guess! 😄

And I'll go google H.R. Ginger.

Should read H.R. Giger, auto spell changed it. I don't even have a good guess about the subject. Will think on it.

And google corrected that for me - without me noticing. I hadn't seen those pictures before that I can remember. Scary stuff. My subject isn't scary at all.

No guesses? It's a marble. The kind kids play with. A big glass one. So not scary at all. 😄

I was leaning towards a Mason jar with something in it. Couldn't decide what the tentacles were. Excellent photo of a marble.

Hope bizarre things are allowed here.

Want to see something scary, not in a mason jar, but in a bottle? I ferment veggies, kraut and other things. Often there's an excess of juice. I love it so I save it in a bottle and drink it as a shot. One time something had grown in a bottle when I took it out of the fridge.

Here's the scary part. When it had been in room temperature a few hours the thing had grown and changed shape. I think it looks like a fetus in formalin!

A friend said it was some kind of top yeast and that it's harmless. But i didn't dare to use the juice. I tried to grow the "thing" though. When I took it out it collapsed to nothing. I put in in another jar with water and a little sugar and it immediately blew itself up and got a shape. But the next day it lay flat on the bottom. I probably shouldn't have filled the jar so much. Since it grows at the top it's likely oxygen dependent and I choked it.

This is the experimentation thread and bizarre things are welcome here. No idea what it was, but your creature belongs here. Great science shots. I wouldn't drink the liquid. What would you have done if it kept growing?

I actually had some crazy thoughts when I want to sleep. That it would maybe grow over night and cover the zink when I woke up and things like that. But instead it died. 😂
