The weekly Abstract and Experimental thread
This weekly thread, starting on a Tuesday, allows us to showcase our abstract and experimental photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the creativity of the image.

    It’s easy to participate
Post an image with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:
This weekly thread is for sharing and developing abstract and experimental photography skills.
We want to see wild, creative photography.
Give your entry a clear title and mention the technique used.
Provide constructive feedback on others’ images.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
”Likes” are encouraged too. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive). Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is an abstract or Experimental photo?
Different ways to see and investigate the world around us. Abstract photography reduces a subject to shapes, tones or colors making it unrecognizable. Abstract subjects are everywhere.

Experimentation might include, Infrared, dragged shutter, zone plate, motion, 3D, fluorescence, multiple exposure, birefringence, ultra violet, optical including adapted lenses, tri color, fractals, manipulated Polaroids, pinhole, Kirlian (bioelectrography) and many other methods. Experimentation can be for artistic expression or pure science. It is often more difficult than standard types of photography. This is fine, we aren't expecting perfection. Every experiment enhances knowledge. Your idea can help others explore the universe around them. We love experimentation. You can explain your process or keep it a secret.
This will be a looser collection of photos compared to other weekly threads. This is good. It will be a place to get away from standard animals, babies & sunset photos. We don't hate animals, babies or sunsets. Show us your creativity

This was an attempt to use very limited depth of field in a different way. The Grand Daddy Long Legs was on a white wall. The limited depth of field of a 200 macro lens made for a different type of side view.
    Thanks for looking,

    Lobster rope

    export-2.jpg

All over Monhegan Island, and any other fishing village in Maine, there's piles and loops of lobster trap rope, either waiting for use, or put aside for new replacements. I have a lot of these, and every one is different.

Excellent abstract. All the entwining colors make a strong composition. Have never seen lobster ropes. Are they different colors for a particular reason? Would like to see more of these images.

Like this very much. Yes I can see a whole set of images, all slightly different. I think it is the used look that is the final touch that akes it good.

Almost looks like snake skin. Great repetitive patterns. Lighting is perfect for this image.

In some situations, an interesting effect can be achieved if the depth of the zone of sharpness can be precisely and abruptly limited.

Terrific capture. Great use of stacking to control the area of sharpness. Lots of creative possibilities. Also like the white background. It simplifies the image and focuses viewer's attention on the spider. Can't be easy to shoot 40 frames without subject movement.

Knew a guy that shot exotic cars with an 85 F1.4 lens wide open and focus stacked to get the car totally in focus. The background was totally obliterated. Slow way to photograph cars, but a distinctive look.

This is great! Usually photographers try to avoid powerlines. You search them out. The sky colors also add drama to the scene.

    Thanks!
The spider was clinging to a few strands of self-made silk and was moving back and forth due to a slight draft.

I made use of this by holding the camera still and letting the camera pull the high speed frames until the buffer filled up. After that I just chose the right frames for the experiment.😁

    Dancing Orchard

I don't know why in some countries trunks of fruit trees are painted white. Discouraging pests perhaps. Anyway, they seemed like figures dancing among the dandelions, so I gave them a little help.

I really like this. The narrow DoF works really well, and the limited colour palette and unusual framing is nice too

Thank you. I started out shooting wide open at F4. There was so little DOF it was barely recognizable as a spider. Settled on F8.

Super image with just enough motion blur. The white trunks keep the image light and airy. Dancing indeed

Moody indeed. Superb capture. Don't see many moody spider shots. 3mm is awfully small, not sure I would have seen him at all. Well done. So what type of light was used for this image?

Like the simplicity. Nothing distracts from the serenity of the image. Glad you revealed what it is, because I would have never guessed. Perfect example of an abstract photo.
